Sutton Coldfield karting star Chris Chubb will make the step up into car racing this season, competing with some of Britain's brightest young talents in Formula Palmer Audi.
Chubb, 20, a former protege of ex-Formula 1 driver Alex Zanardi, will compete at eight of the UK's most famous circuits in a 300bhp turbocharged single-seater ideal for young drivers learning their trade. With just five weeks to go until the season begins at Silverstone, Chris is eager to get in some more testing ahead of the 20-race campaign.
"FPA cars are a real challenge to drive so getting to know the machine is a top priority," said Chubb. "I'm hoping to test at (FPA test base) Bedford Autodrome three or four times in the next few weeks so that I'm fully prepared for the first race. Everyone's got the same car in FPA, so it's very competitive and every fraction of a second is crucial."
With a calendar that allows Chris to learn most of the circuits on the British Formula 3 calendar, Chris is looking forward to competing at some truly legendary venues. "The Brands Hatch Grand Prix race at the end of April will be special for me," he explained. "I haven't been to Brands since I was a kid so it's a dream come true to be able to race there."
Formula Palmer Audi has proved itself over the last nine years to be the most cost-effective route to top-level motorsport. The 2007 season will feature 20 races at eight great UK circuits all for a cost of just £55,000 plus VAT.
