Nostalgia Drags Round Out Emotional Weekend PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 March 2007
A successful round of Shannon’s Nostalgia Drag Racing Series presented by Cruzin’ Magazine brought a close to an emotional weekend at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway.

While saddened by the loss of Mackay drag racer Ken Smith during Saturday night’s test session, racers and team members regrouped as a mark of respect to play out another fitting chapter of the series.
“As an organisation the Cruzin’ Nostalgia Drag Racing Association saw fit to continue our event, just as we are sure Ken would have wanted it,” said Series Coordinator Wayne McGregor.

“The round six contests were fought out with typical aggression out on the race track and as we’ve already seen during the opening half of the series, many category finalists were separated by just the smallest of margins.

“We are back at Willowbank Raceway, the birthplace of the Nostalgia concept for our season ending Nationals on August 19 and I’m sure everyone will be pumped up for a big celebration to round out a big year.

“But for now our focus will be towards Heathcote Park to continue the motor racing momentum on March 25 in Victoria, the very weekend following the Australian Grand Prix.”

Drag racing legend Roly Leahy relived former glories with success over Darren Otto in the Junior Fuel category, Tim Baldwin was too good for Steve Easton in Gas, while Vintage Gas honours went to Shaun Pask over Garry Cameran.

In other results Mandy Pukis gained the nod ahead of Peter Bausch in Hot Rod, Leigh Ryan was too strong for Brad Wooldridge while victory was secured by Lucas Holz in Aussie Muscle who proved too good for Neil Tschutura.

From a Willowbank Raceway perspective the countdown continues towards the QT Tin Top Titles on April 28, with the return of the most incredible all-sedan confrontations as Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro Street Outlaws and Pro Turbo categories headline this time honoured tradition of Queensland drag racing.

In essence the format of the QT Tin Top Titles will see the realisation of drag racing activities inclusive of Group One sedans plus the vastly popular Fast Fours Jamboree and Powercruise scenes which have continually attracted massive interest among drag racing fans.
