International Take-Up As Series Gathers Pace PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 March 2007
With less than three months until the inaugural International Formula Master (IFM) race in Spain, drivers from all corners of the globe are signing up to the Series.

Thirteen drivers have been announced to date, representing Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, The Netherlands, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico with huge interest from many more. So far, 31 full season entries have been confirmed by teams, providing plenty of opportunities for aspiring young drivers.

“We are aiming for a truly international series with IFM,” said Series Director, Mauro Sipsz. “So it is great to see so much interest from teams and drivers across Europe and beyond. It underlines the status of this Series; an affordable and popular global competition that is within reach of motorsport’s rising stars.”

Most drivers have come from various international and national formulas and see International Formula Master as the next stepping stone on the motorsport ladder. One of the Series’ most recent recruit, Ombra Racing driver Dominik Muermans, is looking forward to proving himself at the Series’ race debut on 20 May in Valencia.

“This is a big chance for me and I intend to get good results,” said Muermans who previously drove in Formula 3 and Formula Renault. ”It is super that I will be able to drive for Ombra Racing in the International Formula Master Series. I think my decision to switch to the Formula Master Series was the right one in my aim to get further in the international racing world.”

Equally upbeat is J.D. Motorsport driver, Claudio Cantelli Jr. The 17-year-old raced in European Formula Renault 2.0 last year and this will be his first foray into international racing.

“The experience and atmosphere in the team is unbelievable and exciting,” said Cantelli Jr. “I feel part of the family, which is the most important thing for a 17-year-old boy away from  home. I immediately decided that it was the right choice.”
