The Ipswich Art Gallery has confirmed it will continue its focus on all things motorsport during the City’s Carnival of Horsepower, following hot on the heels of last year’s record breaking Driving Passion, the colours of motorsport exhibition.
While keeping with the general motoring theme which attracted more than 23 000 people to the gallery last year, the focal area of activity in 2007 will open up an opportunity for the general public to contribute to the display.
A special interactive component will give photographers, of all
experience levels, a chance to be incorporated into a public exhibition.
In support of the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic
competition, Ipswich Art Gallery is encouraging photographers to shoot
drag racing images at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway and go in the
running to win some great cash and prizes courtesy of the National
jewellery chain.
For its part, the gallery has set aside an area where all finalists
will be displayed in the ‘Making Tracks Gallery’ from May 19 – July 29.
“Last year’s Driving Passion, the colours of motorsport exhibition was
World-class and has been confirmed as Australia’s most successful
regional art exhibition,” confirmed Ipswich Arts Foundation President
James Sturges.
“To that end it wasn’t a difficult decision to support the Wallace
Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition, particularly as it pertains
to the activities of Willowbank Raceway who was one of our major
supporters of last year’s initiatives.
“We are working closely with the coordinators of the competition to
ensure we have a high standard of imagery showcased as part of this
public display.
“The competition has entry levels for junior, amateur and professional photographers in two distinct subject areas.
“The first is exclusive to Wallace Bishop Jewellers CEO and drag racing
driver Stuart Bishop, who campaigns a unique ’67 Camaro Top
Doorslammer, while the other subject area is open to all classes of
drag racing throughout Australia.
“Perhaps the major call to action for potential Queensland participants
is that only one major event will be contested at Willowbank Raceway
prior to the May 5 competition close.
“The QT Tin Top Titles on April 28 will see Bishop in action, along
with a host of formidable drivers in Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro
Turbo and Pro Street Outlaws categories.”
While the Wallace Bishop Photographic competition will be a timely
presentation, it will coincide with another major exhibition, ‘Eaten
Alive – The World of Predators,’ which will dominate the Ipswich Art
Gallery during this period.
However, the drag racing beasts of the quarter mile are sure to be in
sync with this unique portrayal of formidable International animals,
making the mid-year period from May 19-July 29 a must for children and
families alike.
Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in
the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and be
in the running to win some great cash and prizes.
Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local race
track and forward them through the website
www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.
Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the
track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go
in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy
of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of
quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues
in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in
between.
It’s not just the major venues that will be pumping with quarter mile
drag racing action in 2007, as some of the smaller quarter and eighth
mile facilities get in on the act.
Stretching along the East Coast of Australia, Victoria’s South Coast
Raceway at Portland has regularly scheduled race meetings and it’s a
similar story at Tasmania’s Motors-ACDelco strip.
Mildura’s Sunset Strip in Victoria, Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip
and Queensland’s Palmyra Dragway (Mackay), Benaraby Raceway (Gladstone)
and Warwick Dragway are also bound to have plenty of high speed thrills
in store during the year.

information relevant to the SBR team and the ’67 Camaro Diamond
Doorslammer.
