The best D1NZ drifters will be sliding their way into Taupo September 30th for an action packed day of drifting at the Taupo Motorsport Park. 40 drivers will try and impress the judges to qualify for the all important Top 16, where drivers battle head to head until the winner comes out on top and takes home maximum championship points!
Look out for series leaders “Fanga” Dan Woolhouse and Gaz Whiter to maintain their stronghold on
the D1NZ Championship. But don’t count out Sean “the coach” Falconer,
with a mathematical chance to take out the 2006 championship he will
stop at nothing to gain maximum points on his quest to become Drift
King.
Round 5 of the D1NZ National Drifting Championship is shaping up to be
the best yet, with all the drivers primed and ready for another huge
event at the Taupo Motorsport Park. Due to recent track changes for the
upcoming A1GP event, D1NZ lost half of its old judged section. So in
the name of progress D1NZ has moved to the new 2.2km track 2 at the
Taupo Motorsport Park.
This means D1NZ has had to come up with a new judged section. This will
start from the short esses that lead onto the Drag strip, and then the
drivers to do a double feint down the drag strip and into the final 3
corners, turns 15, 16, and 17. This means the spectators can see the
entire judged section from the grandstands or spectator bank. And to
keep everything in one area, we will set the pits up on the drag strip,
that way you can get up close with the top D1NZ drifters while you get
a hotdog for lunch.
Get your early bird discounted ticket from www.ticketek.co.nz otherwise gates open at 10.30am with cash and eftpos accepted at the gate.
D1NZ is the organisation that runs the National Drifting Championship
and was established in 2003 by several drift teams from all over New
Zealand. This group saw the potential and need to have a hub of
communication for drifters in New Zealand and to organise and regulate
events. Now the series has 6 rounds at many different locations
throughout New Zealand, culminating this year in a Street event in New
Plymouth. The series has its own television show, which screens Sundays
4pm on TV3, D1NZTV.
If you want high-octane excitement, action packed adventures, and a
side-swiping good time, then you've come to the right place! D1NZ is
the first series of events to showcase the competitive thrill-seeking
world of drifting, providing an eye-popping trackside seat to this
tyre-screeching sport. In fact, the D1NZ National Drifting Championship
is the hottest and most extreme event around! So keep your pedal to the
metal and your eyes on D1NZTV and www.d1nz.com for extensive event coverage.
