Today, 14th March saw the launch of FemTrack, - a driving club which has been designed to appeal to women who have the passion to drive fast cars. Before opinionated men reading this are thinking accidents and speeding tickets, it should be pointed out that the courses are run at race tracks around the UK and even beyond with Ice driving in Sweden and driving events at the famous Nurburgring and Le Mans race tracks.
Founders Julie Cuss and Jo Linton both have racing backgrounds and have been overwhelmed by the number of females who have the desire to drive but do not necessarily want to race, or indeed have the funding required to compete.
Julie Cuss (Managing Director) commented at the launch, "Men have been
far too dominant as far as driving fast cars are concerned, women of
today have just as much passion to get behind the wheel. FemTrack gives
women the opportunity to get out on to race tracks around the country
with highly qualified instructors in a safe environment, not only will
they have fun they will become better and safer drivers".
Jo Linton, who is also a BA747 pilot, worked with Julie to form
FemTrack as an affordable option and commented; "FemTrack will allow
women of all ages from all walks of life to have expert instruction in
excellent high performance vehicles. Many females who have the passion
to drive fast can feel intimidated at male dominated track days,
FemTrack make it easier for women to improve their driving skills with
confidence in an all female club".
Although the Cheshire based company is predominantly run by women for
women FemTrack employs male as well as female instructors including top
racing instructors Graeme Glew and Tim Harvey, better known as British
Touring Car Champion and more recently motorsport commentator. Tim was
present at the launch and said, "I believe that women can be good, fast
and safe drivers, they certainly are better listeners than men and tend
to work up to the limits, whereas some male drivers will go over the
limits and end up in the gravel trap!"
FemTrack - The New Women's Driving Experience
Gus Cowie Sales Manager at Honda Chiswick said, "We are delighted to
have supplied FemTrack with the new Honda Civic Type R. This car is
quick and because of the superb handling is perfect for race circuit
driving".
The hotly anticipated Honda Civic Type R has only just gone on sale and
the latest high performance Civic is a more refined 'superhatch', with
improved comfort levels, integrated styling and handling tuned for
enhanced responsiveness and predictability.
Proving that FemTrack is open to all ages, FemTrack's youngest member
Emily Whetton, age 17 attended the launch, together with Jean Neville
who at 69, is their oldest member. With many years of driving behind
her, Jean says: "I have always been keen on speed and I actually raced
against Julie last year. FemTrack is an excellent concept, the
instructors are magnificent and whilst having a great time on track, my
general confidence and skills on the road have now greatly improved."
Emily, on the other hand, has very little driving experience is the
perfect example of a younger driver taking to the roads with too much
confidence and Emily commented "I love speed and driving with FemTrack
has allowed me to learn how to drive quickly on a circuit whilst
gaining valuable skills for the road. The skills I have learnt at
FemTrack have already made me a much safer on-road driver."
FemTrack is a very exclusive club where members pay an annual
membership fee of £99 to enjoy many varied driving experiences. In
addition, corporate events are a speciality and tailored to specific
clients.
As with all successful motorsport teams FemTrack have teamed up with a
major sponsor - Worthington Nicholls group PLC who are also based in
Cheshire."We will be using FemTrack's corporate events to entertain our
clients but I suspect there will be some great opportunities to see who
is the better driver man or woman" - said CEO Mark Worthington.
FemTrack have also announced their chosen charity as Caudwell Children.
Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive Officer of Caudwell Children, said "We
are delighted that Fem Track has chosen us as their nominated charity
and we look forward to seeing the cars in action. Every pound raised
through FemTrack fund-raising events will go directly to the children -
helping us to get that one step closer to changing the world for all
special children in the UK."
