Top Motor Sport Boss Hails South's Big BTCC Race Day PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 March 2007
Alan Gow, the man in charge of Britain’s biggest motor racing series – the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship – says new technical regulations plus a record number of entries will make this year’s opening rounds on 1 April at Brands Hatch, Kent an unmissable event.

The BTCC’s opening three rounds of 2007 will headline a bumper 11-race bill and with FREE admission for children and adult tickets costing just £21* an enormous crowd is anticipated. That price includes access to the hugely popular Pit Lane walkabout session when the public can cross the track to meet the teams and drivers for autographs, photographs and give-aways. Brands Hatch’s accessibility from the M25 and M20 motorways also ensures the first major event on the UK’s 2007 motor sport calendar will be witnessed by a huge crowd from across London and the South-East of England.

Gow believes the BTCC’s new technical regulations, which have seen the majority of the grid switch to Super 2000-specification cars, and an entry list of 26 drivers all vying for position around Brands Hatch’s short 1.2-mile Indy circuit will lead to plenty of unpredictability and excitement.

“It is going to be non-stop action for our crowds,” says Gow. “Brands Hatch is always a great place to start our season. It’s a short but very challenging circuit lay-out which gives an almost uninterrupted view of the whole track for nearly every spectator. Something dramatic always seems to happen when the BTCC visits Brands – you don’t need to be a motor sport nut to enjoy the entertainment. Indeed, many people who perhaps never had an interest in cars come to our meetings and become hooked by the spectacle.

“But this time there’s also the fact that our new regulations mean new types of cars so there will be a lot of added unkowns in terms of performance. Then there’s the task of fitting all 26 cars onto what is the shortest track we race on. Bear in mind the racing in the BTCC is famous for its dramatic push and shove and you quickly start to formulate a picture in your mind of what could be in store at Brands…

“I’m also delighted that Brands Hatch’s owner MotorSport Vision is continuing its policy of allowing in children for free and keeping adult ticket prices low. Furthermore, the circuit takes great pride in providing top-class public facilities.

“I cannot think of any other form of high-profile entertainment that offers such tremendous value for money and allows the public to come in and meet the stars of the show – it makes for a great experience for families and motor racing enthusiasts alike and we very much look forward to meeting the crowds on race day.”

*Race day tickets are still on offer priced just £21 per adult if booked via the Brands Hatch website  www.brandshatch.co.uk or ticket hotline 0870 950 9000.
