Formula Renault UK sensation Jeremy Metcalfe is brimming with
confidence ahead of the penultimate race meeting of the season at
Brands Hatch Indy Circuit next weekend, 23rd/24th September, after a
superb outing during last Sunday’s event at Donington Park.
Racing as part of the support package for the annual British round of
the World Series by Renault, the 18-year-old AKA Lemac star produced
two fantastic performances in rounds 15 and 16 to not only make a
deserved return to the podium but to also emerge victorious in the
battle for the Donington Park Racing Association Club Cup.
On the back of such a successful weekend, attended by an incredible
90,000 spectators, the Fleet teenager heads to Brands Hatch just over a
week from now fully confident of adding to his podium tally during the
17th and 18th rounds of the season.
“I’m very confident for Brands”, said Jeremy, “It’ll be important to
have a good qualifying as it’s vital to start as close to the front of
the grid as possible on the Indy Circuit. I’m sure we’ll be on the pace
from the off which will stand us in good stead for the races.”
With just four races remaining in the 2006 Formula Renault UK
Championship, Jeremy is third in the driver standings, tied on points
with Sam Bird. If the BillChaser-backed ace can repeat the podium
performance he showed during the season-opening event, which was also
at Brands Hatch, he stands a superb chance of making third place his
own.
“I’ll be putting all my effort into qualifying as our starting position
will almost certainly make all the difference, the races normally look
after themselves at Brands”, added the Hampshire sensation.
“Testing will be really important but I know AKA has a good set-up and
we’re very much looking forward to enjoying a couple of podiums. The
competition is obviously very tough but we’re confident we’ll be
challenging at the front all weekend.”
Returning to its usual slot on the British Touring Car Championship
package at Brands Hatch, the Formula Renault UK competitors will have
the opportunity to test at the Kent venue next Friday, 22nd September.
Round 17 qualifying will start at 11.20 on Saturday, 23rd September,
with the round 18 session to follow at 16.10. Both races are scheduled
for Sunday, 24th September, with the first 24-lap encounter expected to
get underway at 11.55 and round 18 timetabled to begin at 15.05.
Motors TV will broadcast all of the raceday action live on channel 413
of the Sky Digital platform and through cable provider NTL on channel
545.
