Racing Engineering officially presented their team for the 2007 GP2 series in a stunning show held on Tuesday 27th March at Oviedo in Spain.
The scene of the presentation were the halls of the Reconquista Hotel in the Asturian capital and it all started with a press conference in which Racing Engineering team Principal, Alfonso de Orleans Borbón, the 2007 team drivers, Javier Villa and Sergio Jiménez, and the race engineer Andrew Ferguson, answered numerous questions from the media representatives.
After the press conference the presentation continued in another hall
with a reproduction of the Racing Engineering pits as a background. In
the middle of it, covered by the Spanish, Brazilian and Asturian flags
sat the Dallara GP2 2007 that Villa and Jiménez will drive this season.
Before unveiling the car it was time for the speeches from the Repsol
and Telefónica representatives, the two main sponsors of the team that
make it possible, once again, for Racing Engineering to compete at the
highest international level. For Telefónica the speaker was Mr. José
Carlos Fernández Sarasola and for Repsol Mr. Javier Inclán.
Following them it was the turn of Javier Villa's personal backers,
FEVE, represented by Mr. Dimas Sañudo, Mapfre with Mr. Antonio Huertas
Mejias, the Oviedo Council with Mr. Alfonso Román and the Asturias
regional government with Ms. Ana Rosa Migoya.
They all emphasised their full support of Racing Engineering and of
their confidence in team work as the main tool to achieve great
sporting results in the forthcoming season.
The final and best attended section of the show was the presentation of
the Racing Engineering 2007 GP2 series driver lineup, Javier Villa and
Sergio Jiménez. After both drivers had spoken to the members of the
public they, together with the Team Principal Alfonso de Orleans Borbón
and the sponsors representatives (Repsol, Telefónica, Mapfre, Feve,
Asturias Paraiso Natural and Oviedo Capital del Deporte) unveiled the
single seater that they will drive this season.
