IFM Conquers Historical Circuit PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 30 March 2007
ifm_newInternational Formula Master (IFM) concluded a two-day test at the famous Monza circuit today, successfully putting the Formula S2000 through the curves and speed traps of one of the toughest tracks in Europe.

The test, with official Development Driver Giorgio Pantano, focused predominantly on endurance, making sure all aspects of IFM’s        single-seater race car stood up to the high-speed Italian circuit.

“We wanted to make sure we'll deliver a car that is reliable and performs well,” said Series Director, Mauro Sipsz, who concentrated on testing the car’s tyre-wear, electrical gearbox and endurance. “I am very happy with how this latest test has gone.

“We are reaching the end of our development programme and the cars will soon be handed over to the teams and drivers. Today’s lap times just reinforce what the whole testing programme has shown; this car is exceptional.”

Monza, a circuit known to test a car’s ability to the absolute maximum, could not break the Formula S2000’s perfect testing record, reinforcing initial reviews of the car as a great all-rounder.

“Because we knew it was a fast circuit we went with very low downforce,” said Pantano, who will this year compete in GP2. “The grip was there throughout, which is really impressive especially at Parabolica. Even after 20 laps the tyres were like new; Yokohama has done a really good job with this project.

“International Formula Master really understands this car perfectly now and I’m sure it’s going to be smooth running from here until the start of the season.”

Excitement is building amongst the Series’ 31 entries, who will meet on the grid at Valencia on 20 May for IFM’s inaugural race.

Before then, the first official test is scheduled for 26 and 27 April at Monza, which will be the teams’ first chance to sample the Formula S2000 for themselves.
