After a year of intense competition we were delighted to win the 2006 MSA British Rallycross Championship, but due to a number of reasons we will unfortunately not be returning to defend our title in 2007. I had been looking forward to defending my title this year, with the Astra being developed throughout the winter period with the intension to do so.
Since the 2007 Autosport Show, a set of circumstances have developed
which has made me think twice about competing in the MSA British
Rallycross Championship. We have been given no recognition for winning
the title, on prime British Rallycross Championship promotional
material including Championship brochures, website and event
promotional material (i.e. posters). The recent announcement that a
control tyre was to be implemented within the Championship was the
final straw, and made up my mind that I will not be returning to defend
my title this year. Especially as the decision has been made so late in
the day which has affected some of my sponsors.
No other tyre manufacturers have been given the opportunity to bid to
become the control tyre supplier for the Championship including those
that have done more for British Rallycross than just supply tyres. This
has included the introduction of at least three sponsors to Rallycross
in Great Britain over the last ten year period and the introduction of
Rallycross into the NEC Autosport Live Action Arena which has been a
great marketing tool to promote Rallycross as a sport.
I am now turning my attentions towards European Rallycross Championship
this year and will be racing in a minimum of four events.
I would like to conclude by wishing all of my fellow British and Irish
competitors the best of luck for the 2007 MSA British Rallycross
Championship.
