Midlands Track Will Produce BTCC'S Closest Racing Says Series Boss PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 April 2007
Some of the closest racing of the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season will be seen at Northamptonshire’s Rockingham circuit on 22 April, according to the man in charge of the series Alan Gow.

The BTCC, Britain’s most popular motor racing spectacle, will return to the Northants venue for the first time in four years and the track lay-out this time will include the high-speed, banked Turn 1.

BTCC Series Director Gow comments: “Week in, week out nothing produces action like the BTCC and I have a sneaking suspicion that Rockingham will produce some of the closest racing and greatest overtaking manoeuvres the championship will see all year.

“The circuit contains a mixture of both high-speed straights and curves and tight, twisty sections that will play to the strengths of pretty much every car, so the field should be very closely-matched.

“Turn 1 is something everyone is looking forward to – not only is it extremely fast but also very wide and with a much slower corner leading onto the preceding start-finish straight we could see the drivers going into there five abreast.

“Then they’ve got to start thinking about the hairpin bend that follows. How they resolve that situation is up to them, but it will be make for great viewing for the crowds.

“In addition, there will be a great sense of urgency among the field, particularly those with ground to make up after last weekend’s opening rounds at Brands Hatch. It’s going to be dramatic, exciting, frantic and action-packed and the public is in for a great day out.”

All-day adult tickets to Rockingham’s BTCC meeting on 22 April are priced just £21 if booked in advance, via Rockingham’s website www.rockingham.co.uk or its hot line 0870 166 0438. That’s a saving of £6 on the day. Admission for children is FREE.

The price includes access to the BTCC’s paddock and the popular Pit Lane Walkabout when the public is openly invited into the pit lane to meet the teams and drivers for autographs, photos and plenty of fabulous giveaways. An 11-race bill of action awaits spectators, including three rounds of the BTCC plus supporting action from BMW, Porsche, Renault and SEAT.
