It’s official – the Kia Magentis V6 will lead the field at the 2007 WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival (BIMF) on the famed Mt. Panorama circuit at Bathurst this Easter weekend.
Acclaimed for the package of quality, safety and value in the Magentis, Kia Motors Australia is further demonstrating the ‘Power to Surprise’ of the car by taking its safety message to the racetrack.
The company is providing three top-of-the-range V6 Magentis sedans to
the organisers of the WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival for use
as the Official Safety Car and other course cars across the Festival’s
three days of racing at Mt. Panorama which culminates in the return of
the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro on Sunday 8 April.
Starting with the European-standard ride and handling, high levels of
standard specification and segment-leading safety of the standard V6
Magentis, Kia has enhanced the cars in line with their role as Official
Safety Cars for what is hoped will again become a classic event in the
Australian motor racing calendar.
“Magentis was only launched on the Australian market just over eight
months ago but most commentators and many customers have already
recognised that it offers an unrivalled package of quality, safety and
value in its segment,” said Bill Gillespie, Director of Sales and
Marketing at Kia Motors Australia.
“It was designed from the start to achieve a five-star NHTSA crash-test
rating in the USA and a four-star EuroNCAP occupant crash-test rating
and last year it lived up to those expectations.
“With such comprehensive active and passive safety equipment –
including Electronic Stability Program, six airbags, ABS, traction
control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution and active headrests –
standard in every model in the Magentis range, and a proven crash test
record, it seemed natural that Magentis should become the Official
Safety Car for the WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival and the
return of 12-hour racing to Mt. Panorama.
”The standard safety package protects every Kia Magentis occupant in
‘real world’ crash conditions. Now, Magentis will also oversee the
safety of competitors in the Bathurst 12-Hour and other races across
the weekend, leading the field whenever officials need to ensure that
the circuit is safe after any on-track incidents.
“Knowing the history of racing at Mt. Panorama, there’s a good chance
that the Kia Magentis will feature quite often as the Official Safety
Car during the Easter weekend’s action and in the television coverage,”
Mr Gillespie commented.
The Kia Magentis official safety cars for the WPS Bathurst
International Motor Festival are powered by a free-revving 138kW
2.7-litre V6, driving through a five-speed Tiptronic-style automatic
transmission.
The standard V6 Magentis is capable of a top speed of 220 km/h and
combined official fuel consumption of 9.3 litres/100kms using 91RON
regular unleaded fuel, making it one of the most economical petrol V6s
in the medium segment under $55,000 and placing it ahead of some
four-cylinder rivals.
Kia is renowned for offering great value but the outstanding and
complete standard specification of the V6 Magentis – and its 2.4-litre
four-cylinder siblings – is also matched by a comprehensive five-year /
130,000kms warranty package and Kia’s traditionally low running costs.
The Kia Magentis EX-L V6 is a great value package, especially at $31,490 RRP driveaway from 1 April to 30 June 2007.
As the Official Safety Car leading the field during the 2007 WPS
Bathurst International Motor Festival, Magentis will inject just a
little bit more of the Kia ‘Power to Surprise’ this Easter weekend.
In addition to the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro there will also be 11
further races around the 6.21km Mount Panorama circuit during the WPS
Bathurst International Motor Festival.
A capacity field of 55 Historic Touring Cars, 43 Aussie Racing Cars –
which provided some scintillating racing at last year’s Festival, 31
Commodore Cup Cars and 26 GT Championship cars will be in action
throughout the weekend.
Along with the WPS 12-Hour Showroom Enduro and the 11 support races to
be contested throughout the weekend there will be plenty of other
entertainment including the opening round of the Freestyle Motorcross
(FMX) Nationals sponsored by Freerider MX magazine and Skin Industries.
Sixty entries have been received for the FMX event including a lot of
riders from country New South Wales, Northern Territory, South
Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, Victoria and even Flinders Island.
There will also be a drift battle with eight drivers confirmed to be a
part of the action including current Australian champ Beau Yates, dual
Australian champion Darren Appleton. There will also be a team of three
drivers from Western Australia including the winner of round one of the
2007 Drift Australia Championship held in Perth last month.
The WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival will be held at Mount
Panorama from April 6 – 8. Tickets are available from ticketek
www.ticketek.com.au.
Every person who buys a ticket to the Bathurst International Motor
Festival, will receive complimentary entry to the National Motor Racing
Museum over the Festival.
