Morris Delivers BMW Pole PDF Print E-mail

It was only in the dying minutes of qualifying that Paul Morris secured the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour pole position, round one of the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship, for BMW at Mt Panorama on Easter Saturday.

Driving the Gary Holt owned Class A 335i Turbo, that will also be driven by Craig Baird, Morris had to overcome a fuel pressure problem to record a 2 mins 32.1348 lap time to be fastest overall.

Prior to that Rick Bates had been the pacesetter from the outset in the Bob Hughes Class B Mitsubishi Lancer EVO that is also co-driven by Peter Gazzard. The early time of 2 mins 32.3169 was good enough for second in the end while Chris Pither put the second BMW (co-driven by Barry Morcom and Beric Lynton) on the inside of the second row.

Grant Denyer was fourth fastest in the first of the Class B Subaru Imprezza WRX Sti’s which he is sharing with Neil Crompton and Chris Alajajian.

Fifth was Mark King in the first of the Pro Duct Lancers but this car that is being co-driven by Mark Brame and Jason Walsh, blew a turbo during the session. Further drama for the team came with the other car of Bob Pearson, Anton Mechtler and Bruce Stewart blowing a piston after having qualified eighth.

Ahead of them would be the Tim Sipp/Christian D’Agostin/Scott Nicholas Subaru and the rally exponents Dean Herridge/Chris Atkinson/Cody Crocker in another Subaru.

Ninth and fastest of Class C was the BMW 130i of Luke Searle and Peter Kelly while Class D honours went to the Holden Commodore SS of father/son Brian and Garth Walden teamed with Michael Auld.

In Class E Colin Osborne, Neal Bates and John Roecken led the way in their Toyota Celica as the Imprezza RS of Jim Hunter/Warren Bossie/Jayson Williamson/Matt Windsor headed Class F.

With only single entities in G and H the Alfa Romeo of Keen Booker/Rocco Rinaldo/David Stone will be vying for top diesel laurels with the Holden Astra of Samantha Reid/Christina Orr/Leanne Tander/Lauren Gray.

The latter is also contending for top female team against Helen Stig, Amber Anderson and Danielle Argiro which red flagged the sesson with eleven and half minutes to go, their Toyota Celica breaking its gearbox.
