| Sera Shines Brightly At The Australian Karting Championships |

 Victorian James Sera secured his maiden Australian Karting Championship at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway today.Sera defeated the best young drivers from across the country in the prestigious Clubman Light category. After coming close to securing the crown on numerous occasions the karting veteran claimed his first crown ahead of fellow Victorian Matthew Hayes. “After many years of trying it is great to finally break through for the win. I led almost the entire final of last year’s championships, only to lose the lead on the final lap which makes today’s victory even sweeter,” said Sera. Fresh from his European debut two weeks ago Sera’s cousin, David, rounded out the Clubman Light podium. In the battle for the Junior honours, Queenslander Chaz Mostert won his third Australian Championship in as many years when he crossed the line first in the elite Junior Clubman class. Mostert took the win ahead of Western Australian driver Amrit Kandola and David Whitmore. The Yamaha Dunlop 45th National Sprint Kart Championships were labelled a huge success with a total of 433 competitors from all across Australia converging on the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway. Victories were spread across many states and chassis manufacturers. The sport of karting has provided a strong grounding for many of today’s stars in Australian motorsport, including the past 11 V8 Supercar Champions. Some of the other recent graduates from karting into the top level of motorsport across the globe include dual world Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso, Aussie Formula One star Mark Webber, rising V8 supercar star James Courtney – a dual world karting champion - and last start winner in the V8 Supercar championship Garth Tander. YAMAHA DUNLOP 45th NATIONAL SPRINT KART CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS (Top Three) Junior National Light Nicholas Foster held off Ben Jurczak over the second half of the final lap to take the Australian Junior National Light title aboard his Arrow kart. Chris Hays made a break on the pack early to stretch out a lead, only for David Whitmore to reel him in. When Hays and Whitmore crashed out through the carousel on the final lap Foster benefited most, defending Jurczak’s Redspeed to the line. 1. #13 Nicholas Foster 2. #76 Ben Jurczak 3. #39 Jack Howard Results are provisional Junior National Heavy A last corner pass by New South Wales driver Blake Sciberis secured the victory in Junior National Heavy. Sciberis made an aggressive move on Western Australian Amrit Kandola for the lead, which he held until the line. Kandola finished second ahead of Monaco driver Joshua Tanti. 1. #68 Blake Sciberis 2. #11 Amrit Kandola 3. #33 Joshua Tanti Results are provisional Junior Clubman Queenslander Chaz Mostert secured his third Australian championship in as many years (2005 & 06 Junior National Light). The CRG pilot took over the front running with five laps to go and held of the charging pack of five karts led by Amrit Kandola for the win. Kandola finished second with local driver David Whitmore third. 1. #5 Chaz Mostert 2. #11 Amrit Kandola 3. #57 David Whitmore Senior National Light Anthony Petrilli took advantage of a hectic final lap to take the Australian title in Senior National Light, beating fancied favourite Thomas Phillips after Cian Fothergill spun his Phoenix at the second corner on the final lap. Daniel Baker was with the lead pack all race long and came home a strong third. 1. #9 Anthony Petrilli 2. #92 Thomas Phillips 3. #13 Matthew Waters Senior National Heavy Arrow pilot Daniel Stein led from start to finish to win the Senior National Heavy crown. Stein held off a fast-finishing Matthew Waters who pushed him the entire distance with Kart One Racing’s Matty Dorado. 1. #88 Daniel Stein 2. #13 Matthew Waters 3. #62 Matty Dorado Clubman Light James Sera finally broke his national title duck, getting to the front of the pack in the early laps and pulling a race-winning lead and finally securing the Victorian a green plate. Phoenix driver Matthew Hayes was a strong second, leading home the chasing pack in the final race of the day. David Sera made it an all-Victorian podium with third, followed by Scott Auld, Cameron Thorpe and Matthew Wall. Clubman Heavy 1. #94 James Sera 2. #52 Matthew Hayes 3. #98 David Sera Clubman Heavy Local ace Troy Hunt secured a popular victory aboard his Top Kart in Clubman Heavy. When the rain showers fell mid way through the race Hunt took over the front running from Lee Mitchener. Hryniuk also found a way past the Arrow driver with a handful of laps remaining to secure second place. Mitchener held on for third. 1. #20 Troy Hunt 2. #1 Jason Hryniuk 3. #90 Lee Mitchener Clubman Super Heavy Scott Simpson was the only man to successfully defend an Australian title at this year’s Nationals, surviving an early skirmish with rival Ryan Fulcher to win by a country mile. Fulcher dropped back to last after contact between the two, recovering to be in contention for second only to crash out at the carousel. Anthony Higgs came home in second and Ben McKinlay third. 1. #1 Scott Simpson 2. #6 Anthony Simpson 3. #74 Ben McKinlay Leopard Light It was billed as a David Sera and Matt Wall showdown and lived up to all expectations with Wall starting on the pole position with Wall on his outside. Wall led the opening lap but it was Sera who found his way to the front on lap five. Sera opened a gap only to have mechanical issues with a couple of laps remaining. He crossed the line ahead Gillard’s Hayden McBride and Matt Wall. 1. #96 David Sera 2. #13 Hayden McBride 3. #15 Matthew Wall Results are provisional Leopard Heavy The first lap of Leopard Heavy eliminated the three favourites, with Kel Treseder failing to finish with mechanical failure heading down the back straight for the first time and defending champion Rick Pringle and PCR hot shot Andrew Torville crashing out in the fast last corner at the end of lap one. Matthew Greenbury gave Intrepid a win with a solid drive, beating home Ryan Fulcher who was prevented a shot at a final lap pass when he and Be Walter made contact on the last lap.
