| Skelta Has Secret Weapon At Targa |

Following on from the scintillating motor racing exploits of Toowoomba Champ Car ace Will Power, the Garden City’s tarmac specialist Ray Vandersee will eye Targa Tasmania glory over coming weeks in his self-designed Skelta G-Force sports car. Vandersee has confidence in the overall package of the Skelta and has declared his co-driver Jahmeil Taylor as his secret weapon in capturing the spoils of the International tarmac event on April 17-22. The Aussie built Skelta G-Force boasts a short, yet impressive report card in tarmac competition, including a highly regarded second placing at last year’s Targa New Zealand event. Coupled with an outstanding debut at last year’s Tasmanian feature, there’s little doubt Vandersee is also a lot more comfortable in the driver’s seat after 12 months of competitive racing in the sleek looking Skelta. Performance, reliability and the added bonus of Taylor’s 9 previous Targa Tasmania campaigns, makes a 2007 Apple Isle podium well within reach for the Toowoomba, Queensland based team. “We have some unfinished business at Targa Tasmania after being forced out of the race when placed second last year with just two stages remaining,” said Vandersee. “That was through no fault of our own after a rock had strayed up and pierced the rubber boot casing on the rear CV joint. “But that was of small consolation and I know Jahmeil was just as disappointed as I was when we were left stranded on the side of the road. “After going so close last year, in what was my first racing event in the car, and now with a lot more miles under my belt we’re shooting for a solid result next weekend. “Jahmeil and I have a great understanding and strong rapport under pressure which will definitely complement the confidence I have in the Skelta’s capabilities.” For 28 year-old Taylor of Adelaide the Skelta co-drive seat is one which she’s been looking forward to getting back into after last year’s maiden Tasmanian assault with Vandersee. Excitement reins in her approach to the Targa assignment which will see competitors take in 450 competition kilometres over 43 stages, spanning across five days. “It’s very hard not to be excited particularly as there’s no doubt we’ll be a better proposition as Ray and I have spent a lot longer together and really cemented our working relationship in the car,” said Taylor. “Having had that time to fine tune can make fair bit of difference. “I can adjust my calls in accordance with the general feel of the car and how Ray appears to be feeling. “I suppose you really start to develop a sixth sense with what’s required as you’re calling the notes and gain a solid figuring for the car and driver.” Optimism is a further trait that Taylor will take into this year’s Targa Tasmania, knowing the Skelta can challenge some of the more regular makes and models of tarmac specialist vehicles. “It’s reassuring that I feel safe and comfortable in the Skelta and that makes the calls so much easier without any added pressure. “Because of the overall performance and handling of the car Ray doesn’t have to overdrive and take unnecessary risks. That makes for a very smooth ride even in competition. “All the big names are back this year and I think with what we achieved last year there’ll be a little more interest in what we’re doing come next week’s Prologue on Tuesday.” Competing in her first Targa Tasmania event as a 16 year old with her Dad, Taylor was also able to gain a further handle on the mechanical side of the sport when pursuing a brief driving career in speedway. Skelta Sports Cars has a stock of comprehensive promotional DVDs that outline the original concepts, engineering and overall performance capabilities of this unique Australian made sports car.
