Formula Renault UK star Will Bratt underlined his credentials as a contender for podium finishes and race wins when the championship visits Thruxton Circuit for rounds five and six of the season next month, the Oxon teenager setting the second fastest time during official testing at the Hampshire venue this afternoon.
Bouncing back very strongly from the disappointment of losing out on an almost certain podium finish at Brands Hatch during the second round of the season 10 days ago, Will enjoyed a very competitive outing under sunny skies today, posting a quickest lap of 1m 10.778 seconds (119.81mph) during the second of the day’s two sessions.
Placing him second only to fellow championship contender Dean Smith
during the afternoon, Will’s fastest lap of the day also saw him end
the test a highly creditable fourth overall. The first of the test’s
two 45-minute sessions, held during the morning, saw Will achieve the
fifth quickest time with a lap of 1m 10.973 seconds (119.49mph).
“It’s been a good, solid day of testing and we’re very happy with our
performance”, said the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport ace, “You’re always
working to find a bit more time compared to your rivals but we’re happy
with our position relative to the others.
“To be second fastest in the afternoon and fourth overall for the day
is good and it’s been a great way to show our true pace again after the
disappointment of Brands Hatch. We know we should have been on the
podium there but from the work we’ve done today it shows we have a very
strong package in general and we’re right up there at the front.”
Having run as Apotex Scorpio’s lone entry into the championship during
the opening race meeting of the season at Brands Hatch, today’s test
saw Will joined once more by experienced single-seater racer David
Epton who, of course, competed alongside the Adderbury driver
throughout 2006.
“Having David back with the team today was obviously a boost for
everyone and it was good being able to share data”, added Will, “We’ll
compare what we’ve learned and hopefully put it into practice when
we’re back here at Thruxton in a few weeks.”
Currently eighth overall in the Formula Renault UK standings, Will’s
next track action will come at Rockingham Motor Speedway on Friday,
20th April, during pre-event testing for the second race meeting of the
season. Qualifying will take place on Saturday, 21st April, with rounds
three and four timetabled for Sunday, 22nd April.
