Hampshire single-seater sensation Jeremy Metcalfe declared himself satisfied with the fifth fastest time overall during Formula Renault UK testing at Thruxton Circuit today, the championship contender also enjoying a session’s best of fourth place this morning.
Having got his 2007 title campaign off to the best start possible at the beginning of the month with victory during the first round of the season at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, the AKA Cobra driver is confident the work completed today during a brace of 45-minute test sessions will enable him to challenge for more wins as the championship progresses.
Jeremy, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Easter Monday, was one of
just five drivers to lap under the 1m 11 second barrier this morning,
his best time of 1m 10.883 seconds (119.64mph) placing him fourth on
the timesheets.
Although he didn’t improve his time during the afternoon, and
subsequently slipped to fifth position on overall times, the steps made
during both sessions have left the Loughborough University student
feeling very confident.
“The first session was good and although we weren’t quite as fast as we
wanted to be during the afternoon, I know where we needed to improve
and I’m confident we’ll be challenging for podiums and wins when we
race at Thruxton”, commented Jeremy.
Hailing from the Hampshire town of Fleet, the BRDC Rising Star will
enjoy two racing visits to his ‘home’ circuit this year – the first
coming in May for the fifth and sixth rounds of the season with the
championship finale also taking place at Thruxton in mid-October.
“We did some useful set-up work today and tried some changes which
worked well so I’m really looking forward to the four races we’ll have
at Thruxton. We were at the sharp end last year and I’m confident we’ll
be even stronger this season.”
Currently third overall in the Formula Renault UK standings, having won
the first round of the season from pole position and going on to record
a top six finish in round two, the BillChaser-backed star’s focus now
turns to Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Motor Speedway which will be the
venue for the next two races of the season.
Rounds three and four will take place on Rockingham’s International
Super Sportscar Circuit on Saturday, 21st April, and Sunday, 22nd
April.
