Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt is bidding to secure his first podium finish of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season next weekend, 21st/22nd April, when the third and fourth rounds of the campaign take place at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Will, who celebrates his 19th birthday today, Friday, 13th April, is hungry for a visit to the rostrum after the disappointment of missing out on an almost certain second place finish at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit a fortnight ago during the first race meeting of the season.
An excellent start to round two, from third on the grid, catapulted the
Adderbury teenager into second place on the run to Paddock Hill Bend.
But Will was adjudged to have made a false start to the race and saw a
potential podium ripped from his grasp when forced to serve a
drive-through penalty for the alleged indiscretion.
Already a race winner in Formula Renault UK following his memorable
victory during round four of the 2006 season at Oulton Park in
Cheshire, the University of Oxford student is confident he is driving
as well as he ever has and, coupled with a well engineered Apotex
Scorpio car, he is confident of a successful Rockingham weekend.
“We’re hoping we’ll be on the pace at Rockingham and I see no reason
for that not to be the case”, said Will, “Our aim is to keep the
forward momentum going, keep our discipline and challenge for big
points.
“We had a strong car at Brands Hatch and in the Thruxton test earlier
this week we were very fast. The important thing to remember is that
they’re two completely contrasting circuits so we’re feeling confident
our car is working very well in general.”
He added: “At Rockingham during the pre-season test we did encounter
some difficulties with the car due to a shock absorber problem, so we
never got to show our true pace. I think we stand a great chance of
being on the podium next weekend though and that’s definitely the aim.
The whole Apotex Scorpio team is doing a fantastic job.”
Rockingham’s International Super Sportscar Circuit will host the third
and fourth rounds of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship with
pre-event testing set to take place on Friday, 20th April. Round three
qualifying is scheduled to start at 09.00 on Saturday, 21st April, with
the round four session expected to commence at 14.15.
Both races are timetabled for Sunday, 22nd April, with round three
beginning at 10.35 and the fourth round of the season getting underway
at 14.50. Subscription channel Setanta Sports 2, available via cable
and digital satellite, will broadcast both races live.
