Formula Renault UK title challenger Jeremy Metcalfe aims to build on the excellent start he made to the 2007 season at Brands Hatch almost two weeks ago with a brace of podiums finishes at Rockingham Motor Speedway next weekend, 21st/22nd April.
Hosting the third and fourth rounds of the championship, the Northamptonshire venue’s 1.95-mile International Super Sportscar configuration offers a mixture of high-speed banked turns and slow-speed technical corners and is a circuit Jeremy enjoys.
His first experience of the new Formula Renault aerodynamic upgrade kit came at Rockingham during the first official pre-season test session in March and the AKA Cobra star wasted no time in getting up-to-speed, immediately lapping on the pace and posting the third fastest time.
Starting his championship campaign in perfect style a fortnight ago
after winning round one at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, the 19-year-old
now plans on adding further victories to his tally by leading the way
at Rockingham just over a week from now.
“I’m really looking forward to the next two rounds of the
championship”, commented the BRDC Rising Star, “Rockingham is a
brilliant venue, the track has lots of overtaking opportunities and is
the sort of place which suits my driving style. Next weekend will be
the first time I’ve ever raced there but I’m confident it should go
well and we’ll be strong.
“We were fast at Rockingham during the pre-season and also spent a lot
of time working on set-ups for this race meeting so I’m pretty
confident we should be in the fight for a couple of podiums at least to
keep our current momentum going.”
Backing up his round one victory with sixth position during the second
race at Brands Hatch, Jeremy is currently third overall in the 2007
Formula Renault UK Championship.
Pre-event testing at Rockingham will take place next Friday, 20th
April, with qualifying scheduled to follow on Saturday, 21st April –
the round three session is expected to get underway at 09.00 with round
four qualifying to follow at 14.15.
Both of the weekend’s races, which will be broadcast live by digital
satellite and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 2, will take
place on Sunday, 22nd April, with round three beginning at 10.35 and
round four starting at 14.50.
