Winton Raceway held the first round of the Victorian Formula Ford Series last weekend (31st March – April 1st)
After missing Saturday morning practice due to an unforeseen issue with the clutch Harrison was unsure of the track condition going into qualifying. The 15 minute qualifying session allowed Harrison to put a time good enough for 6th place.
Race one on Saturday afternoon was in warm and dry conditions. The 8 lap race was interrupted by a safety car period on the second lap. Harrison remained in 6th position until an accident a few cars ahead allowed him to move to 5th for the remainder of the race. “5th place is a good way to start the weekend and allows for more improvement” “The car felt good and the bunch in front of me didn’t pull a big gap which shows I can definitely keep with them” commented an enthusiastic Harrison.
Sunday morning saw race two in slightly cooler conditions than the
previous day and a 5th place starting position allowed Harrison to be
on the inside for the first corner. The 10 lap race started with
Harrison moving into 3rd place after a good start. On the 2nd lap
Harrison was taken out of the race from 3rd position when a fellow
competitor drove into him at turn 8. “It’s very disappointing to be
run off the road so early in the race, we will have to assess the
damage and will be back out for the next race” commented a devastated
Harrison.
The third race was held at 2.25pm on Sunday afternoon. Harrison
started from the back of the grid and after a good start was in 9th
after two laps. On the 3rd lap a lower wishbone broke on the left rear
as a result of the collision in the previous race, this resulting a
second DNF in 3 races. “There must have been a bend in the wishbone
which we didn’t notice even after we checked the wheel alignments”
“It was a hard weekend but now its over and im looking to the next round at Sandown and beyond”
Round two of the Series will be held at Sandown Raceway May 12-13.
