Team VIP Petfoods chief Tony Quinn called on all his experience to achieve an outright fifth placing today, mastering a historic completion of the second leg of Targa
Tasmania which included Austraila's first ever tarmac rally night stage.
Placing solidly in the top five, Quinn made all the right moves throughout today to further elevate himself up the timesheets, surpassing his own expectations for the leg.
"Overall today was good for us, and to hear we are in the top five is pleasantly suprising," said Quinn.
"The night stage for us was fine, it is great for the spectators of course and is a credit to the organisers of Targa Tasmania.
"Coming into today we were concerned about stages such as The Sideling which is tighter than what the car usually likes, so we were pleased when it handled the stage so well and went on to have what has turned out to be a strong day.
With today's stages run and won, Quinn and Wenn are in the mix for the lead heading into tomorrow's leg three.
"Tomorrow is yet another day, and it is a day with lots of tricky stages and teams looking to cement their positions ahead of the big run up and back down the island," said Quinn.
"The weekend is where the real racing is going to happen so we are looking towards that and hoping to be in a good position come Saturday.
"To be honest our car is alot heavier than the ones in front of us, but we're not going to let that phase us and just put our heads down and get to it, there is still a long way to go before this is over."
Tomorrow's Southern Loop will see the pair travel from Hobart through Grasstree Hill Reserve, Tunnel Hill, Howden, Snug, Oyster Cove, Cygnet Short, Longley and Ridgeway Park on their way back to Hobart.
Targa Tasmania is considered one of the toughest races of its kind where vehicles are this year required to cover more than 2000 kilometres, including 450 competition kilometres over 42 stages.
This years' Targa Tasmania is Quinn's eighth and the first in a long line of rally exploits to come for his team this year, with up to eight rally ventures on the cards including the prestigious Nurburgring 24 hour in which the team placed ninth on debut in 2006.
