Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt believes the start to both of tomorrow’s Formula Renault UK races at Rockingham International Super Sports Car Circuit will be crucial to determining whether or not he can achieve his first podium finish of the season.
Although disappointed to miss out on the first two rows of the grid during both of today’s qualifying sessions ahead of Sunday’s third and fourth rounds of the season, the Oxon racer is confident he can still bid for at least one podium result at the Northamptonshire venue tomorrow - but the opening lap of each encounter will be of paramount importance.
During qualifying for round three, Will did head the times with
approximately eight minutes remaining after posting a lap of 1m 16.910
seconds and while he did find an extra six 10ths of a second before the
end of the 20-minute period, his best time of 1m 16.335 seconds
(91.90mph) saw him end the session in fifth place.
Round four qualifying saw Will post a best time a 10th of a second
closer to the eventual pole position lap, although his quickest tour of
1m 17.247 seconds (90.81mph) would see him finish a couple of places
further back than during the earlier period with the seventh fastest
time.
“We know the top three was achievable today so I’m a bit disappointed
to be on the third and fourth rows of the grid but, having said that,
our car is quick and I’m confident in race conditions we can make up
some ground”, said the 19-year-old.
“In round four qualifying we did have some understeer which cost us a
few 10ths of a second but I’m sure the team will cure that in time for
the races tomorrow. We need to make a good start to both races and
hopefully pick up a couple of positions on the oval banking before we
reach the first hairpin – that’s the aim anyway!”
Round three of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship will take place
at 10.35 tomorrow, Sunday, 22nd April, with round four to follow at
14.50. Both races will be broadcast live on cable and digital satellite
subscription channel Setanta Sports 2.
