Jeremy Metcalfe is on course to challenge for a brace of podium finishes at Rockingham tomorrow during the latest instalment of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship, the BRDC Rising Star securing a second row start for rounds three and four of the year.
During qualifying at the Northamptonshire venue earlier today, the 19-year-old AKA Cobra driver produced a good performance in both 20-minute sessions to take fourth place on the grid for both of tomorrow’s 16-lap encounters.
The round three session, which began the day’s action in slightly cool
conditions, saw Jeremy post a best lap of 1m 16.216 seconds (92.04mph)
to take fourth place on the grid while a quickest time of 1m 17.137
seconds (90.94mph) in warmer round four qualifying was also good enough
for the second row.
As the closest challenger to reigning champion entrant Fortec
Motorsport, Jeremy is bidding to improve on his current third position
in the driver standings when racing gets underway tomorrow morning and
the Hampshire driver has every confidence he will be able to mount a
strong challenge for podium results.
“Starting on the second row for both races isn’t what we wanted but
it’s not too bad and I’m confident we stand a good chance of a couple
of podiums”, commented Jeremy, “It’s clear Fortec has a very good
set-up for Rockingham but we’re sure we’ll have a strong car in both
races tomorrow and I’ll be pushing hard to be on the podium again.”
After starting the season in the best way possible with victory during
round one at Brands Hatch, the BillChaser-backed ace has his sights set
on adding to his 2007 podium tally tomorrow and with several overtaking
opportunities on the 1.95-mile International Super Sports Car layout,
hopes are high for two action-packed races.
Round three of the Formula Renault UK Championship will begin at 10.35
tomorrow, Sunday, 22nd April, with round four timetabled to begin at
14.50. Digital satellite and cable subscription broadcaster Setanta
Sports 2 will broadcast both races live.
