Willowbank Raceway will be the place to be this Saturday when Queensland drag racing fans have a final opportunity to enter the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition.
More than $20 000 in cash and prizes should be incentive enough for spectators to capture some of the magic moments of the QT Tin Top Titles and for company CEO and regular Top Doorslammer driver Stuart Bishop there’s the attraction of a winner’s gold Christmas tree trophy also up for grabs.
Fresh from business commitments abroad, Bishop is looking forward to firing up his 3500 horsepower Diamond Doorslammer ’67 Camaro, in what it’s hoped will be a celebration of sporting and cultural pursuits.
“The whole idea of the Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic
competition has been to provide an interactive opportunity for the
fans,” said Bishop.
“To date there’s been a tremendous response and I further extend the
invitation to fans of all ages to get their cameras at the ready and be
sure to enter.
“With a May 7 competition deadline and the next major event at
Willowbank being the Winternationals on June 8-10, the Tin Top Titles
will be the best opportunity.
“Finalists in each category will be a part of Ipswich’s Carnival of
Horsepower by being included in a public exhibition at the Ipswich Art
Gallery in the direct lead up to the Winternationals.
“We’ve been working behind the scenes with our competition partners
Willowbank Raceway and the Ipswich Art Gallery to ensure the inaugural
Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic Competition is a resounding
success.
“I’ll be focused on how we perform on-track this weekend but I hope
everyone else is just as committed to shooting some great shots and
entering them into the competition.”
With limited time to conduct testing of his immaculately presented
vehicle, Bishop will count on his overall enthusiasm and passion for
competition to steer him towards outright success.
To date it’s been a progressive and positive season for the rookie Group One driver.
Following entry into the final eight car field to contest eliminations
during last September’s Nationals in Queensland, more recently the
World’s fastest jeweller did likewise during Sydney’s Summernationals
in February.
“We’re shooting for three straight finals appearances and that’s a credit to the entire crew,” said Bishop.
“At the Nationals we came up against Victor Bray and at the
Summernationals it was John Zappia. Both these guys are in contention
for the championship so that’s a fair indication of where we’re at with
things.
“Obviously it’s always difficult trying to juggle my business
commitments with racing but it’s been great and I think everyone in the
team has enjoyed the ride in Top Doorslammer this year.
“We’ll look to go out and put together another solid performance on Saturday and see where we end up.
“It’s an exciting time of the year with the Winternationals just over a
month away. There’s a real buzz around the place and we’re just so
happy to be a part of it.”
Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in
the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and be
in the running to win some great cash and prizes.
Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local drag
racing track and forward them through the website
www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.
Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the
track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go
in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy
of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of
quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues
in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in
between.
It’s not just the major venues that will be pumping with quarter mile
drag racing action in 2007, as some of the smaller quarter and eighth
mile facilities get in on the act.
Stretching along the East Coast of Australia, Victoria’s South Coast
Raceway at Portland has regularly scheduled race meetings and it’s a
similar story at Tasmania’s Motors-ACDelco strip.
Mildura’s Sunset Strip in Victoria, Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip
and Queensland’s Palmyra Dragway (Mackay), Benaraby Raceway (Gladstone)
and Warwick Dragway are also bound to have plenty of high speed thrills
in store during the year.
Full details of the Wallace Bishop photographic competition are

information relevant to the SBR team and the ’67 Camaro Diamond
Doorslammer.
