Orchard Funds Management (formerly SAITeysMcMahon), one of Australia’s largest specialist fund managers, has announced their sponsorship of teenage Australian racing driver Sam Abay. A standout in the Australian karting scene, Abay only narrowly missed out on securing the Formula BMW Asia crown in just his first season of open-wheel car racing and will graduate to the Formula BMW UK series in 2007.
Speaking in relation to the announcement Orchard CEO David Hinde said "Orchard has enjoyed enormous growth and supporting gifted young Australian's to realise their full potential is core to our philosophy and we believe that there is synergy between where Sam is at and where we are aiming."
"Sam has shown outstanding potential and Orchard are proud to sponsor
him in his quest to reach and succeed at the highest level of
international motorsport. We supported Sam last year in the Asian
series and believe that he showed what he is capable of. It's an
enormously exciting challenge which Orchard wish to share with Sam and
Australian sports fans."
For Abay the deal represents a major boost for his career. "Very few
young Australian racing drivers are lucky to have the support of a
company who truly understands what it takes to get to the top of the
sport." said Abay.
"I'm very fortunate Orchard not only understands what it takes, but
wants to play a key role in my development. It's fantastic to have a
successful Australian firm behind me helping me wave the Australian
flag overseas."
