Hampshire motor racing star Jeremy Metcalfe is aiming to return to the Formula Renault UK Championship top three during the fifth and sixth rounds of the season at Thruxton next weekend, 5th/6th May; the BRDC Rising Star hoping to add more race victories to the season-opening success he achieved at the beginning of April.
The 19-year-old from Fleet, who currently resides in Loughborough where he studies Banking and Finance at the local university, is looking forward to his homecoming for the first of two visits this year to Thruxton and is hopeful of a competitive return to the Formula Renault UK podium.
In a break from normality, rather than take part in a pre-event test
the day prior to the race meeting, official Thruxton testing took place
two weeks ago and saw the AKA Cobra ace record the fifth fastest time
of the day.
Although pleased with his testing performance, Jeremy knows there is
more to come and is confident he will bounce back strongly from a
weekend of mixed fortunes at Rockingham where a fourth place finish in
round three was tempered by a problematic run to 11th place in round
four.
“Rockingham wasn’t quite the weekend we wanted but I’m looking forward
to Thruxton now and hopefully we’ll find some more pace to be able to
challenge the championship leaders”, said the BillChaser-backed star.
Currently fourth in the Formula Renault UK Championship standings,
Jeremy knows a brace of podium results will boost his bid for the 2007
title but his chief aim is to mount a challenge for race wins,
especially in view of the fact the AKA Cobra squad achieved a double
victory at Thruxton in 2006.
He added: “I want a couple of podiums at least but my main target is to
be ahead of (Duncan) Tappy so we can make some inroads into the
championship lead. We did some valuable set-up work during the official
test a couple of weeks ago so hopefully that will stand us in good
stead and we can score some big points next weekend.”
Round five qualifying will take place at 10.20 on Saturday, 5th May,
with the round six session scheduled to follow at 14.45. Both 16-lap
races, which will be broadcast live on cable and digital satellite
channel Setanta Sports 2, will take place on Sunday, 6th May, with
round five starting at 11.35 and round six commencing at 16.05.
Provisional 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship Standings (after Rds3&4)
