A classy three-piece entourage of prestigious two and four-wheeled vehicles will mark the presence of Stuart Bishop Racing at this weekend’s 39th running of the Hot Rod, Street Machine and Custom Auto Spectacular at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds.
With an open invitation extended by organisers, Bishop saw the annual affair as the perfect opportunity to unveil two new artistic motoring marvels, to complement his drag racing showpiece, the ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer.
A replica street car of Bishop’s Murray Anderson built Camaro, which
was judged the best engineered car at Willowbank Raceway’s 2006 Castrol
EDGE Winternationals, will be on show in identical livery.
A custom built MAD Chopper, painstakingly put together by Brisbane’s
Morgan and Wacker Harley Davidson completes the SBR ensemble, which is
sure to prove a major head turner this weekend.
“This collection of vehicles will come as a total surprise to many
people as I’ve been putting all the pieces together over the past two
years to make it all happen,” said Bishop.
“Our entry into Group One Top Doorslammer drag racing competition began
almost 12 months ago, now the street car and Chopper are set to add
even more prestige and class to our racing program.
“The Diamond Doorslammer isn’t just a race car, it’s a show car.
“I hope everyone at this weekend’s spectacular appreciates the
aesthetic appeal of all our vehicles and that will make explaining
these new additions particularly to family and friends just a little
easier.
“It’s an exciting time for everyone at Stuart Bishop Racing after a
strong Tin Tops result last weekend and now aiming up for an assault of
this year’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals on June 8-10.”
The World’s fastest jeweller has proven time and time again that his
Diamond Doorslammer has plenty of go to match the show with a personal
best time of 6.18 seconds over the quarter mile recorded during his
maiden season.
Capable of generating close to 3500 horsepower through an expertly
crafted, US built Dave Riolo engine, the Diamond Doorslammer has all
the trimmings, including a special customised variable, courtesy of the
Bishop family’s Wallace Bishop Jewellers enterprise.
On the roof there are more than 540 cubic zirconia featured in a
diamond configuration and among them a half carat, 50 point diamond,
valued at more than $5000 as part of the engrained work.
Bishop’s new ’67 Camaro street car is powered by a 350 Chev engine,
while a 120 cubic inch S+S engine assembled into the MAD Chopper ensure
each of the SBR vehicles follow a similar trend of power, class and
sophistication.
The Hot Rod, Street Machine and Custom Auto Spectacular will run
Saturday May 5 through to Monday May 7 with gates opening from 9.30am.
Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in
the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and be
in the running to win some great cash and prizes.
Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local drag
racing track and forward them through the website
www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.
Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the
track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go
in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy
of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of
quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues
in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in
between.
It’s not just the major venues that will be pumping with quarter mile
drag racing action in 2007, as some of the smaller quarter and eighth
mile facilities get in on the act.
Stretching along the East Coast of Australia, Victoria’s South Coast
Raceway at Portland has regularly scheduled race meetings and it’s a
similar story at Tasmania’s Motors-ACDelco strip.
Mildura’s Sunset Strip in Victoria, Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip
and Queensland’s Palmyra Dragway (Mackay), Benaraby Raceway (Gladstone)
and Warwick Dragway are also bound to have plenty of high speed thrills
in store during the year.

information relevant to the SBR team and the ’67 Camaro Diamond
Doorslammer.
