Dominik targets climbing FPA points table

Dominik Jackson will head to next weekend's third meeting of the Visma Formula Palmer Audi Championship at Snetterton aiming to make amends for a difficult start to the season.

The 22-year-old former Formula BMW Germany race-winner has yet to score his first FPA podium after five races, having come fourth on two occasions, and finished his Brands Hatch challenge last weekend in the gravel at Druids in Round 5. With Jackson currently sitting outside the top 10 in the points table, he says that his qualifying form is the key for improvement.

"I'm really disappointed that I've struggled in qualifying this season," he said. "I've got plenty of race pace in me, but it takes me so long to get past the cars I've qualified behind, I run out of laps to get into the top three."

Jackson also expressed his frustration at missing golden opportunity to add to his points tally in the final Brands Hatch race, having crashed out at Druids on lap two while running in a strong fourth place. "I was caught unawares as the drivers in front of me braked earlier than I expected. I tried to scrub off enough speed to make the corner, but I ran out of road. It was a rookie error, and especially frustrating as I felt I had the pace to run with the leaders."

Heading to Norfolk next weekend, Jackson is looking forward to claiming back a few places in the points table, with currently only 18 points separating him in 11th from Jack Clarke in fourth. "As long as I can qualify in the top few, I can be consistently fast and score some podiums at Snetterton," said Dominik. "I've driven Snetterton a couple of times, and it has a good mix of slow and fast corners, so it's a track that should be good for me."

Jackson also revealed he has yet to give up on his title aspirations, despite having a sizeable gap to make up: "There's still 15 races left, and anything could happen. It's a big gap, but I feel I'm fast enough to close it."

Rounds 6, 7 and 8 of the 2007 Visma Formula Palmer Audi Championship take place at Snetterton on 12/13 May. Advance admission tickets are now available for just £10, with children aged 12 and under being admitted free. For more information and to book, visit www.snetterton.co.uk.
