Team AllAboutProperty.com driver shows backing for local circuit
Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn Bell continued to show his support for Cadwell Park on Wednesday [2 May] as he made an appearance at the annual media day to launch the 2007 season at the picturesque Lincolnshire circuit.
Although the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship driver was unable to take his BMW 320i with him on the day - with the car undergoing final preparations for the latest rounds of the season at Thruxton this weekend - Martyn did take his AllAboutProperty.com Mini Cooper along as he continued his one man crusade to take the BTCC to a circuit described as one of the best kept secrets in British motorsport.
Cadwell is often referred to as a miniature version of the infamous
Nurburgring Nordschleife, and with that in mind, Martyn spent time
giving passenger rides to members of the local press as well as a
number of stars from the British Superbike Championship in his own
‘Mini-ring taxi’. He also spoke enthusiastically to the media about why
Cadwell Park is his favourite circuit in the UK.
“It was a really good day,” Martyn said. “I took BSB riders John
Reynolds, Cal Crutchlow, Billy McConnell and Peter Hickman round the
track in the AllAboutProperty.com Mini, along with a lot of members of
the local media.
“It was great fun and to be honest with you, I think Crutchlow nearly
threw up when he got out of the car. He wanted to take me out on the
back of his Rizla Suzuki, but all of a sudden I was needed elsewhere
and had to leave the circuit in a hurry. Hell will freeze over before
you get me on the back of one of those bikes!”
Martyn admitted that he was proud to have been asked to help promote
the circuit, and said he was hopeful that one day, he will be able to
compete in the BTCC on his own doorstep.
“I feel the day was really successful and I think a lot of the local
press are now more aware of the fact that there is such a fabulous
circuit right on their doorstep,” he said. “Every time I go to Cadwell,
there are improvements being made and I think a lot of people could
learn from what Jonathan Palmer and Motorsport Vision are doing with
the track, not just in terms of the actual circuit itself, but also in
the facilities around it.
“They are putting a lot of work into improving Cadwell and I know they
want to get more car meetings on the calendar. With that in mind, it
would be great to have the BTCC racing there and I’ll be continuing my
one-man campaign to make it happen! I’m proud to be associated with a
circuit like Cadwell Park and hopefully I’ll be in the BTCC long enough
to one day race a touring car there.”
