South Australians Shawn Jamieson and Bruce Heinrich will start off the front row in tomorrow’s May 6 first of three races at Phillip Island’s second round of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship. It’s Jamieson first pole and has also lifted the Holden Commodore back into contention for the popular two marque Ford verses Holden series.
Heinrich the four times and reigning champion of the category didn’t make the best usage of his new tyres. “They are at their best on the first fast lap and we had a red flag situation which meant I had to abort. After that I just couldn’t get there while Shawn did his time just before the flag came out,” he said.
West Australian Kerry Wade, having his first outing in the national
series, put in a strong second session qualifier to nab third spot on
the grid just in front of John Goodacre (SA) which made it three
Commodores in the top four. The latter missed most of the opening
session due to a half shaft problem.
Similarly Queenslander Scott Nicholas missed the early outing after
breaking his Falcon’s gearbox on the out lap, but struck back solidly
to snare sixth alongside fellow state resident and Ford driver Kris
Walton who was fifth.
Round one winner and 2004 champion Clint Harvey (WA) was a
disappointing seventh in his Falcon while NSW’s Peter Dane (Falcon) was
fourth early but slipped back to eighth overall as others overcame
their untimely problems.
Victorian Tim Rowse (Commodore) was ninth as he also experience a
gearbox dilemma, and SA’s Brad Fox (Falcon) completed the top ten, just
ahead Jake Camilleri’s Holden, and the Fords of Matt Lovell, Troy Hoey
and Brett Carrington as 23 face the starter for three eight lap races.
The Australian Saloon Car Company (TASCCO) is a foundation member of
the CAMS National Racing Championship, one of the five core categories
(Production Cars, F3, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and GT/Porsche) in
partnership with CAMS that now make up the Shannons Nationals.
The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon category is
supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension, Kumho
Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy
Wheels.
