Walton Stars In Goodacre Round PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 May 2007
South Australia’s John Goodacre in a Holden Commodore won round two of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship overall but Queenslander Kris Walton can count himself extremely unlucky not to have clean swept the three races. A puncture in the second race meant a pitstop for a wheel change and put his Ford Falcon down a lap.

Three of the top qualifying spots were Holdens with Shawn Jamieson (SA) on pole, West Australia’s Kerry Wade third and Goodacre fourth. Only reigning champ Bruce Heinrich prevented a complete white wash, his Falcon second. Walton started the first race from fifth next to fellow Queenslander and Ford runner Scott Nicolas

Jamieson lead from race one outset but Walton was the pick of the chasers, fifth initially before quickly threading his way though the opposition and into the lead. Shortly after Goodacre relegated Heinrich to four which became fifth as Clint Harvey (Falcon) followed the Commodore through.

Jamieson looked to have second covered but was all out of shape at the Southern Loop on the last lap. Harvey tried to bypass the out of control Holden but the two came into contact and both were sidelined, for the remainder of the meeting in Jamieson’s case.

Walton won, crossing the line ahead of Goodacre, Heinrich and the Fords of Brad Fox (SA), Nicolas, Peter Dane (NSW), Matt Lovell (SA) and Troy Hoey (Qld). Wade was an early retirement from the race, in the top five early until a broken gearbox ended the race.

In the second race Goodacre led before Walton was able to get by. However the puncture came soon after with the Falcon spearing off the track at turn eleven. He limped back to the pits for a replacement tyre and ultimately finished a lap down on the leaders.

Goodacre won while Nicolas held second until brake issues allowed Heinrich through. Fox was a close fourth and Lovell was next after a long dice with Dane who eventually fell down the order after contact with Harvey. Then followed the Commodores of Victorian Tim Rouse and Queenslander Jake Camilleri who battled poor handling in his worse weekend so far.

A puncture also ruled out the Falcon of Brad Piggott while Wade’s troubled weekend continued – this time due to a fuel pickup pipe dropping into the tank.

In the last race Walton stormed through to win over Goodacre. Dane was up to third until he too had a tyre issue while Harvey almost had a disaster trying to overtake on the outside at turn 12 but recovered and improved to finish third in front of Lovell, Fox and Camilleri.

Wade was next, at least having one decent run while Heinrich continued for points after a tyre change he feared was worse than just a flat spot but Nicolas and Rowse parked their cars at half distance.

The Australian Saloon Car Company (TASCCO) is a foundation member of the CAMS National Racing Championship, one of the five core categories (Production Cars, F3, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and GT/Porsche) in partnership with CAMS that now make up the Shannons Nationals.

The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon category is supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension, Kumho Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy Wheels.
