Lauren Gray Ready To Bounce Back After Tough F3 Fortnight |

Lauren Gray continues to remain positive and ready for success despite a tough weekend behind the wheel at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit at the weekend.
19-year-old Gray, From Melbourne, was able to secure a solid point’s haul and a National Class podium finish to secure her second-position in the class championship within the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship after three of the scheduled eight rounds.
A positive pre-event test session gave Gray hope that she would be able to contend for the class honours this weekend but a tough weekend failed to meet the young drivers’ high expectations after a number of problems throughout the weekend.
Despite this Gray now has accumulated 69 championship points in the
National Class to sit just one place behind leader Chris Barry.
After qualifying second in class in the opening session Saturday
morning, Gray was unable to complete a full flying lap in race two
after a gear selector fork broke at the end of her first lap out of the
pits – leaving her to start from the rear of the grid in race one.
She was able to work her way to 12th position in race one before a
stall at the start of race two in the afternoon left her trailing the
field by a considerable margin – Lauren brining the car home in one
piece to again score solid championship points thanks to third in
class.
With a seven-week mid-season break now in effect, Gray aims to use the
time to recharge her batteries after a particularly tough fortnight
that has featured two rounds in three weekends.
”I’m looking forward to a break because it’s been a tough few weeks on track,” she said.
”It was a disappointing round for us because after the test session
here last week I thought that things were looking very positive.
”Unfortunately it was just one of those weekends where things didn’t go to plan.
”I lost practice two on Friday after coming off at the Southern Loop
and then we had the gear selector fork break just one lap into the
second qualifying session.
”Then the car stalled at the start of race two and it wouldn’t restart
for a long time so by then I was miles behind. Luckily we were able to
finish the race and get some championship points.
“We’ll look at where we are at and try to progress further at Mallala,” She said, ever upbeat.
The Lauren Gray Motorsport team would also like to welcome the support
of Rockfort Tools, who joined the team at Phillip Island.
Lauren Gray is one of Australia’s top female drivers and competes in
the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 championship – Australia’s only
fully international racing category.
Gray drives an Opel-powered Dallara for Melbourne-based Scud Racing.
She finished second in the Trophy Class championship for older model
cars last season before graduating to her newer car at the beginning of
the 2007 season.
