Davison And Whincup New Formula Ambassadors PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 May 2007
V8 Supercar stars Will Davison and Jamie Whincup will take on the role of joint Ambassadors for the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2007, offering advice and support to the next generation of Australia's motorsport talent.

Davison and Whincup are both previous Australian Formula Ford Champions in 2001 and 2002 respectively before moving into V8 Supercars as doors quickly opened for them, however they are not alone with well over half of the current V8 Supercar field having raced in the National Formula Ford category at some stage of their careers.

"There is no doubt that Formula Ford is the breeding ground and feeder category for V8 Supercars and many other top categories around the world," said Will Davison- now racing for DJR's Jim Beam sponsored team.

"I have fantastic memories of my days in Formula Ford and am genuinely very pleased to be able to offer some help and support to the young guys coming up through the category.

"Formula Ford provided a fantastic opportunity for me to gain more knowledge about motor racing and I have no doubt it played a pivotal part in getting me to the level I am at today," explained Davison.

Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup is equally impressed with the Formula Ford program and it's involvement in helping to provide a means for young drivers to race at a National level on Australia's best race tracks.

"I am proud to be able to support the category that boosted my career into V8 Supercars", explained Whincup.

"We need to make sure that our future talent have the right opportunities to show their potential.

"Formula Ford is the best category to improve a young driver's race craft and setup skills, without aerodynamics the drivers can understand mechanical grip which is the back bone to any good race car", he said.

Davison and Whincup were on the Gold Coast yesterday for a photo shoot with current Formula Ford competitor Sam Sewell and take on their role as joint Ambassadors leading into Round Three of the Formula Ford Series at Winton next weekend.

"It is fantastic to have Jamie and Will as the Ambassadors for our category, meeting them today was a great opportunity and hopefully we can get as much advice and information from them as possible," explained Sam Sewell.

"Having guys of their calibre in this role gives all of the current Formula Ford drivers a huge boost, as they are driving in the V8 Supercar Championship and ultimately that is where many of us are striving to be," said Sewell.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship continues at Winton next weekend May 18-20, where teams will gather for round three of the 2007 championship.
