Jack on top ahead of FPA triple-header
Jack Clarke set himself on course for his first win in the Visma Formula Palmer Audi Championship by topping the test session for this weekend's third meeting of the 2007 season at Snetterton.
The 19-year-old, who currently stands in fourth place in the championship but has yet to score his first podium, set a best time of 1 minute 5.55 seconds around the super-fast 1.95-mile Norfolk circuit in the second of the two sessions.
This put Clarke just under two tenth of a second ahead of Alex Brundle,
who shone at his home track to take second spot. Third went to
championship leader Luciano Bacheta, ahead of Tom Bradshaw and Jolyon
Palmer. Dominik Jackson set the sixth-fastest time, followed by Chris
Bell, Jason Moore and Russell Small.
Meanwhile, there was drama late in the day for Tim Bridgman. The former
Formula BMW UK champion came together with Jeremy Preddy at Russell
Bend, sending Bridgman into a spin. The 21-year-old had to settle for
the 10th-fastest time, but finished ahead of Stefan Wilson, who wound
up down in 14th.
Two drivers did not take part in the test, but Mark Powell and Nik
Iruwan will both head out on track for tomorrow's pair of qualifying
sessions.
