| Aussie Kearting Quartet Ready For Euro Round Two |

A quartet of Australian karters will converge on the Prokart Raceland complex at Wackersdorf in Germany for round two of the Rotax Mojo Max Euro Challenge this weekend. After crossing the line one-two at the National Championships in Sydney last month Victorian David Sera and New South Wales driver Hayden McBride will lead the charge for the Australian contingent. Sera, who finished tenth during his European debut in France at the opening round, is contesting the series in the Australian-made Arrow chassis. The multiple Australian Junior and Senior Champion will be aided in this weekend’s round by his father, George Sera of DP Karts, who will be making the trip as David’s mechanic. “We came into the opening round a little bit under prepared which put me behind the eight-ball so we’re not taking any chances this weekend, Dad is coming over to make sure everything runs smoothly,” said Sera. “He has been my mechanic throughout my entire career and we work very well together, hopefully together we can improve on my tenth placing in the Final at the opening round.” McBride, who hails from Newcastle, is contesting the European Series with one of the top karting brands, Gillard Racing Karts. The Novacastrian was on track to join Sera inside the top ten at the opening round with some impressive results during the Heat races. Unfortunately he was speared off the circuit during the opening turn in the Final which dropped him well behind the final runner in the field before clawing his way back to 25th position. “The opening round was tough, we some issues with engines in practice but overcame these and moved up the order during the Heat races and Pre-Final to be close to the top ten at the start of the Final,” said McBride. “Unfortunately it all went pear-shaped in turn one but I learnt a lot during the opening round and a top ten result this weekend is a realistic goal.” Australian drivers should also figure prominently in the Junior Max category with Newcastle’s Steel Guilana and Shepparton’s Luigi Catanese set the take the challenge to their European compatriots. Guilana has spent the last few years competing throughout Europe and after finishing runner-up in last year’s Rotax Mojo Max Euro Challenge he came into the 2007 series as one of the favourites. However, when he failed to finish the Pre-Final in the opening round he was forced to start from the back of the field in the Final. The Intrepid driver showed tremendous speed to climb up the order to finish a creditable 17th in the Final and will be chasing a spot on the podium in Germany this weekend. After contesting the opening round of the series with the PCR team Catanese will make his debut in a Gillard chassis this weekend. The Victorian finished a creditable 13th during his European debut and is aiming for the top 10 this weekend. The Australian drivers will be amongst the 161 competitors from 30 nations who are competing in the Challenge across the Senior Rotax Max, Junior Rotax Max, Rotax DD2 and Rotax Masters categories. The impressive Prokart Raceland complex at Wackersdorf, one hour north of Munich, is a new addition to the Euro Challenge in 2007. It is the first time a round of the series has been contested in Germany. The circuit which the drivers will compete on this weekend is a very fast, flowing circuit and 1257 metres in length. Along with the racing circuit the complex boasts an enormous indoor karting track and trackside restaurant.
