| Formula Ford Chassis Battle Continues At Winton |

Round three of the 2007 Australian Formula Ford Championship gets underway at Winton Raceway next Friday, with yet another new chassis to set to make its debut in the National Series as Brad Lowe steps into a new Spirit WL07. With almost two months since the completion of round two at Barbagallo in March, teams and drivers have had more than ample time to thrash out any problems with car set up to prepare for a successful Winton campaign. The battle of the chassis's continues at Winton this week when the Spirit WL07 will enter the fray to challenge the Mygale and Spectrum chassis's that have had good results in the opening two rounds of the series. "We are looking forward to the introduction of the latest model Spirit at Winton, from all accounts the car is going to be very competitive, and we are very pleased with how it has tested so far," explained Anglo Motorsport's Tim Beale. "Brad is very happy with the development of the new Spirit and while we haven't had a huge amount of testing time in the car we are very happy with it straight out of the box." While it can't be expected that the new Spirit will come out and smash records first up, it will be interesting to see how it fares against the Mygale and Spectrum's that have set the pace so far this year, and also how it stacks up against the Van Diemen's that have been some what off the pace this year. After having sustained success on the national scene in past years, the Van Diemen chassis has battled to be at the front of the grid so far this year, with the best effort being a sixth place by Jonathan Grant and John Magro in separate races at Barbagallo. Jonathan Grant drives the only Van Diemen that sits inside the top ten on the points standings leading into round three, a surprising stat given that Van Diemen's have made up a majority of the field in the last fifteen years. Its strange territory for the popular Van Diemen, having been at the front of the national championship between 1987-1997 and then again between 2001-2004, teams running the Van Diemen chassis have some catching up to do if they are to challenge the front running Mygale and Spectrum's in this year's series. The field jumps back up to twenty-three drivers at Winton this week as numbers fell to sixteen for the difficult trip to Barbagallo in March, at least twenty competitors can be expected for each of the remaining rounds, very steady numbers as the championship continues to grow in stature. Series leader and a Formula Ford rookie this year, James Moffat holds just a five point advantage over his Sonic team mate Tim Blanchard heading into round three and the Victorian is looking forward to a round in his home state knowing there is a lot of hard work ahead. "While we have had a great start to the series, we don't want to get too carried away at this stage given there are still six rounds to go- anything could happen," explained Moffat. "We have had some good solid testing in the last couple of weeks at Winton and I am very pleased with last week's test as we seem to have rectified a few issues that we were having. "I expect to be battling it out with the same guys that are currently sitting right behind me in the points, but Winton will be the first round I have actually been in a Formula Ford at the track prior to arriving so that gives me a good advantage compared to the opening rounds," said Moffat. Round Three begins this Friday at Winton raceway with the opening practice session to kick off at 9:00am and qualifying and three races scheduled over the course of the weekend. Race two of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be broadcast nationally with the V8 Supercar telecast, check local guides for details.
