Sam, and his Carlin Motorsport team mates made an appearance at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands, Weybridge on Saturday, where they signed autographs, had a tour of the splendid facility, and entertained (!?) journalists with drives around the wet and dry handling tracks.
“It’s an awesome facility” said Sam after the tour “and wonderful that it’s on the site of the original home of British Motor Racing. We met a large number of racing fans and I particularly enjoyed driving a Mercedes 6.3 litre AMG car around the handling tracks”
The Formula 3 cars were on display in front of the impressive building
for the afternoon, prior to their journey to Bucharest where the
British F3 International Series reconvenes this weekend, for the City’s
inaugural street race.
Monday and Tuesday of this week see Sam at Bath University, where the
six winners of places on the first ever MSA Race Elite Scheme will
undertake physical and psychological testing as part of their prize.
Bath University is the home of Team Bath, where elite athletes from all
over the world come to learn about training, both mental and physical,
and optimum nutrition programmes. Sam and the other winners are hoping
to use the experience to maximise their performances on the race
track. “it’s a wonderful opportunity” said Sam “and I’m looking
forward to learning everything I can from the experience to help me
progress in F3 and beyond”.
“Then, on Wednesday, I fly to Romania. I haven’t done a street race
before, and although many of my rivals have raced in streets at Pau and
Macau, no one has driven the new Bucharest circuit, so it should be a
level playing field. I can’t wait for the experience, but as there
are no run-off areas in street races, you just can’t afford to make a
mistake and I will have to keep my wits about me”
