Tasman Motorsport’s Jason Richards is looking for his ‘slice of the pie’ when the V8 Supercar Series hits Winton Motor Raceway for the fifth round of the championship next weekend.
Richards said he was hoping the speed his team found during a test at Winton last week would transfer to race pace as he was tucking into a Jason Richards Signature Steak Pie.
As part of a special offer that includes a choice of starter and desert, the ‘Jason Richards Signature Steak Pie’ is now on the menu for a limited time at New Zealand’s leading family restaurant chain, Cobb & Co.
The pie was created with Richards’ favourite meal in mind – succulent
steak – inside a tasty hot pot pie. Its filling is marinated for a day
and a half in NZ’s Speights Old Dark beer before being carefully stewed
for three hours by Cobb & Co chefs. It is then served with classic
peas and mashed potato lashed with gravy.
What does Richards have to say about the pie bearing his initials on
its pastry topping? “What do you say about your favourite meal … it’s
really, really yummy!” Richards and team-mate Greg Murphy spent two
days testing their Tasman Motorsport Holden VE Commodores last week.
Richards produced the quickest lap time of Day Two, at which there were 16 ‘main game’ and Fujitsu Series V8 Supercars present.
“Since Pukekohe we have made a lot of developmental changes to our
Commodores which have made a difference and that’s encouraging,”
Richards said.
“My best time was comparable to Garth Tander’s in the Toll HSV
Commodore the previous day, and the HSV team are the form team of the
moment.
“Winton is the home round for most of the Holden teams, but last year
that didn’t count for much – we qualified third, but only finished 12th
overall for the weekend while a Queensland-based Ford team won.
“Next weekend we’re looking for our own slice of the pie.”
