Third Fastest For Metcalfe In Official Testing At Croft |

Jeremy Metcalfe concluded the first of two days of Formula Renault UK testing at Croft Circuit third fastest today, the AKA Cobra driver reinforcing his position as a genuine contender for podium finishes during the next two rounds of the season which take place at the North Yorkshire venue just over a fortnight from now.
The 19-year-old, currently studying Banking and Finance at Loughborough University, ended the morning session with a best lap of 1m 18.180 seconds (97.86mph) to place him third on the timesheets just over a 10th of a second adrift of the fastest time of all.
Drizzle, which later turned into persistent rain, arrived at the start
of the afternoon session meaning the second half of the day’s testing
was relatively pointless with regard to lap times. However, Jeremy did
utilise the session to conduct some good work and completed a total of
28 laps in the wet conditions in his BillChaser-backed car.
Speaking after the test, the Fleet-based racer said: “It’s been quite a
good day and even though I didn’t string a perfect lap together we were
still third fastest this morning so I’m happy with that as we only
needed to find an extra 10th of a second or so to be quickest.
“Due to it being wet in the afternoon we spent our time bedding in
brake pads and things like that. The session wasn’t about setting a
quick time, and we didn’t try to do that, but we know if we had taken
new tyres when the track was drier we would have been right at the
front again.”
As the scene of Jeremy’s maiden Formula Renault UK race victory, Croft
holds good memories for the BRDC Rising Star and he is looking forward
to the continuation of official testing tomorrow, Thursday, 17th May,
which will hopefully take place in the dry.
Tomorrow’s test will actually be a shared day, split into sessions
between Formula Renault UK and competitors from the ELF Renault Clio
Cup. Of course, this week’s action precedes rounds seven and eight of
the 2007 championship which will take place at Croft just over two
weeks from now on 2nd/3rd June.
