Will Bratt concluded the second day of Formula Renault UK testing at Croft Circuit this afternoon delighted with his performance yet again having been one of the three fastest drivers during three of the day’s four sessions of track action.
The 19-year-old Apotex Scorpio Motorsport ace, who finished fourth and third fastest respectively in yesterday’s two sessions, continued to show his front-running credentials during today’s outing at the 2.1-mile North Yorkshire venue where he ended the day a highly creditable fifth fastest overall on combined times.
Will’s quickest lap of the day, 1m 17.765 seconds (98.38mph), came
during the third of the day’s four sessions but the Adderbury-based
star was consistently on the pace throughout the day having been third
fastest in sessions two, three and four.
In session one, which took place on a drying track due to overnight
rain which set-in at Croft during the second of yesterday’s two test
sessions, Will posted the fifth quickest time with a lap of 1m 20.361
seconds (95.20mph).
With the track having dried in time for session two, the Oxon driver
was an impressive third quickest with a best lap of 1m 18.187 seconds
(97.85mph), just two 10ths of a second away from the outright pace, and
then in the third session he continued in the same vein with his best
lap of all, 1m 17.765 seconds (98.38mph).
Third quickest yet again in the fourth and final session with a best
lap of 1m 17.797 seconds (98.34mph), the University of Oxford scholar
is now rightfully looking forward to rounds seven and eight of the
Formula Renault UK Championship which will take place at Croft just
over a fortnight from now.
“The last two days have gone very well for us”, commented Will, “We’ve
been very strong, quick in the wet and the dry, so we have a lot of
confidence ahead of the Croft races in two weeks. It would have been
nice to have topped the times in one of the sessions but to be firmly
among the front-runners throughout the two days is great.
“We had a chance to be second fastest in the last session today but my
quickest lap was compromised by a slower BARC car (Formula Renault BARC
runners were permitted to test alongside the Formula Renault UK drivers
today). I’m pleased with how things have gone though, we made good
progress with the car and we’re happy with our pace.”
Will returns to Croft just over two weeks from now on Friday, 1st June,
for pre-event testing ahead of the seventh and eighth rounds of the
season. Timetable restrictions on Saturday, 2nd June, mean the Formula
Renault UK competitors will only have a single 20-minute qualifying
session to determine the grid for both of the weekend’s races.
Rounds seven and eight will take place on Sunday, 3rd June, and both
encounters will be broadcast live on digital satellite and cable
subscription channel Setanta Sports 2.
