Spirit Racing Aims For Glory At Magny Cours PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 May 2007
The Spirit Racing team heads to the French Grand Prix venue of Magny Cours next weekend, aiming to once again step onto the podium in the latest round of the V de V European Endurance Championship.

The Spirit Motor Group backed squad took its first ever victory last time out at the Val de Vienne circuit. The race distance will once again be three hours at Magny-Cours. However, this time the race will start at 7pm in the evening, running into darkness, adding an extra element to the event.

Jamie and Adam Derbyshire, who share one of the teams Norma chassis’ are both looking forward to the third round of the series, following a successful test at Donington Park earlier this week, where they hope to have got to the bottom of a series of small problems that have been hampering the start to their season.

“The car was fantastic around Donington,” said Jamie Derbyshire. “The handling was just great and, although we didn’t have any other V de V spec cars lapping at the same time to compare to, we’re confident that we are going to Magny-Cours with a car that we can hopefully try and win the race with,” he added.

Team-mates Rob Garofall and Simon Phillips took pole position and the race win at Val de Vienne and the Derbyshire brothers are keen to join them with a trip to the top step of the podium.

“We hope that we’ve solved the small engine issue that we found last time out,” explained Adam Derbyshire. “The car was certainly good at Donington and we also hope that with Magny-Cours being a very flowing track, that mine and Jamie’s pace should be well matched enough to allow us to have a great strategy over the three-hours, even if we don’t have outright speed. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing what we can do at the weekend,” he added.

The team will have three hours of testing to fine tune the car in readiness for qualifying on Saturday. The evening race is scheduled to start at 7pm local time on Sunday evening.
