There may be a youth movement throughout auto racing, but if you come to the south to road race stockcars in the V8 StockCar series you are gonna run into white haired and lightning fast "Wild Bill" Smith, the talented driver of the "world's fastest "55 Chevy," (actually, a tube framed, fiberglass bodied stock car with paint and graphics to resemble a "55 Bel Air).  "Wild Bill" continued his mastery of Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, taking both ends of the Jim Stark Memorial SARRC/V8 StockCar races hosted by the Buccaneer Region of the SCCA.

Smith, in his Nextel Cup small block Chevy powered racer dominated the weekend, qualifying on the pole and winning overall and the V8 SPO class both days.  Lee Arnold in his ex Ken Shrader South West Tour Monte Carlo came from back in the pack to garner two runner up finishes in V8 SPO.  Florida's Greg Cecil took the V8 GTA class both days, beating back some strong competition from Jay Marshall and Squeak Kennedy.  Bob Mayer took V8 GT-1 on Saturday in his Speed GT type Corvette, but got bumped and spun at the start on Sunday, losing a windshield and having to retire.  Mark Davis, in his Camaro ran incident free and took the V8 GT-1 win.

With nearly thirty stock cars and GT-1 types, there was action everywhere on the twisting two mile track that requires drivers to be smooth and precise to be competitive.

The V8 StockCar series thanks the Buccaneer Region SCCA and its' workers for a fine job facilitating one of the largest GT fields ever at Roebling Road.
