GRM V8 team owner Garry Rogers says that crashes to the Holdens of his young guns Lee Holdsworth and Dean Canto at Winton and Pukekohe will leave him with a hefty $200,000 repair bill going to Eastern Creek next month.
Rogers’ team will repair the VZ Valvoline/Cummins Commodore that hit a concrete wall backwards at 150km/h at Winton on Sunday, and keep his partially built VE replacement car for completion and debut later in the series.
“We’ve cut the back end off and got 14 guys working non-stop to fix it. It’s been some really expensive damage and money doesn’t grow on trees anymore,” Rogers lamented.
“But we will do it, do it properly and test it before the Sydney race.
“Lee’s pretty knocked around, but he’s ok and fortunate he went in backwards as the seat cushioned him against massive G-forces.
“He’s one of the better young drivers around and had a terrific year so
far for us. I know he’ll come back and perform even better despite this
set-back.”
The fifth round of the V8 Supercar Series takes place at Sydney’s
Eastern Creek Raceway on the Queen’s Birthday Weekend, 9-11 June.
