The new BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup moves another step closer to its target of a twenty car grid by the end of the season with three new cars due to race at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
In Class D, former motorcycle racer Shawn Taylor will debut his Nissan 350Z and hopes to match the race winning pace set by Jethro Bovingdon in his similar machine at the inaugural Snetterton rounds. Former Westfield Champion Quentin Laithwaite will debut his Renaultsport Clio 182 in the big class, hoping that the nimble front wheel drive car will be able to tackle the more powerful contenders in this class.
AMR Racing will debut the first of their Fiat Punto HGTs at Oulton
Park, with former Formula Ford driver Keith Wood having a one off drive
in the Class B contender. Former production car winner Mark Hales
returns to his roots with a guest drive in AMR’s other car, the SEAT
Leon FR that won Class C at Snetterton.
Two of the leading drivers from the first round, Paul Lund (Alfa Romeo)
and Gary Cole (Citroen) are to miss Oulton Park due to clashing
commitments, but hope to be back when the series gathers again at
Donington Park on August 5th.
“In the first season the Cup will be at six of the eight Dunlop Great
and British Festivals. The next two Festivals at Spa and Thruxton will
focus on our core championships of Mini and Radical, with the
BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup rejoining the package in two months time.
The entries for the first two rounds have really showcased the
potential for the Cup and we expect the break will allow time for other
new cars to be prepared” stated Dunlop’s James Bailey
