Team VIP Petfoods Prepares For Nurburgring: The Toughest Of Them All |

Only two weeks remain until Australia’s very own Team VIP Petfoods contests their second Nürburgring 24 hour, following a remarkable ninth on debut in 2006.
Depending who you ask, the Nürburgring is either the world’s most beautiful race track or a “Green Hell” of notorious corners and death – the toughest and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world.
Whoever you believe, there is no disputing the Nürburgring is one of
the world’s most famous race tracks, undoubtedly fast, difficult and
challenging for all who dare to lay rubber on its legendary bitumen.
The circuit on which the 24 hour is contested includes both the
infamous Nordschleife (The Northern Loop) of 20.832km and the Grand
Prix circuit of 4.556 km to come to an amazing length of over 25
kilometres and up to 100 corners.
This year Team VIP Petfoods will tackle the prestigious event in two
cars - the Porsche 996 which experienced the iconic circuit last year
and the team’s new weapon, the Porsche RSR – ready for everything the
famed twists and turns can throw at them.
“There is no doubting the toughness of the Nürburgring,” said team owner Tony Quinn.
“It is hard and it is demanding, and that is why to succeed here is such an achievement.
“You would be a fool to underestimate this race track, and those that do more often than not pay the price dearly.
“We went well last year on debut, placing ninth, so this year we are aiming for a podium with the RSR on-board.
“But of course to win you must first finish, so this will be front of mind for us.”
Team VIP Petfoods 2006 Nürburgring 24 hour line-up will return this
time around to pilot the new RSR - which was unveiled for the first
time yesterday at Queensland Raceway - with Craig Baird, Tony Quinn,
Klark Quinn and Kevin Bell all taking the wheel. The 996 will be
steered by Paul Kelly, Max Twigg, Sean Juniper and John Teulan.
