Cooling conditions in the Czech Republic provided a perfect showcase
for Yokohama ADVANS' capabilities today as the FIA World Touring Car
Championship raced under cloudy skies.
The situation was a stark contrast to yesterday’s bright, sunny
qualifying, but the changing conditions did not affect Yokohama ADVAN’s
performance.
In another exceptionally competitive weekend Jörg Müller celebrated his
37th birthday in style as he led the BMW 1-2 from start to finish in
round 13.
He was closely followed by BMW’s Alessandro Zanardi after he passed
pole sitter Gabriele Tarquini on the first corner. Tarquini spun out of
the race shortly after, but SEAT was granted a podium finish by
Frenchman Yvan Muller, who claimed third.
Chevrolet got its second win of the season with Robert Huff, who led
from pole in his Lacetti whilst BMW driver Andy Priaulx returned to the
championship lead with a second place finish.
SEAT driver Yvan Muller once again finished in third after a close
fight with Zanardi, which resulted in the Italian retiring from the
race.
In the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy, current leader Tom Coronel (SEAT
Léon) drove a solid race in round 13, finishing sixth overall but had
to retire from race two with an engine problem.
Jörg Müller, BMW Team Germany: “The tyres were very consistent. We had a normal drop off during the race and were able to work well with them.”
Robert Huff, Chevrolet: “I was very worried about Andy Priaulx
catching up with me as he has rear-wheel drive but the tyres held
throughout the race. They were consistent and worked very well with our
car set-up…and I won!”
Tom Coronel, GR Asia: “My car was very good in the first race. It is performing very well with the tyres and it was a good race for me.”
Kazuyoshi Sekiguchi, Yokohama: “The level of close racing
throughout the field today really showed how well the Yokohama Advan
tyre adapts to each car. We are very proud of our product and I am glad
so many drivers feel they can race well with it."
