Shannons Australian Production Car Championship leader Garry Holt has landed pole position for the first of three races in the third round at Queensland Raceway today. Driving the Eastern Creek Karting/2UE Batherst 12 Hour winning BMW 335i Turbo, Holt was almost a second an a half in front of rivals.
Heading up the challengers at this stage is Phillip Island round winner Leigh Mertens in the G & D Performance Holden Commodore HSV while Holt’s team mate Barry Morcom was third quickest in the Rondo BMW. Fourth and fastest of the Class A cars was Garth Walden in a Holden Commodore SS from fellow class runners Luke Searle (SAE College BMW 130i and Steve Briffa’s Paul Wakeling Holden Commodore SSZ.
In a disappointingly yet competitive field, Chris Delfsma’s Ford Falcon
XR8 failed to turn a lap because of power steering issues while James
Parish headed up the Trophy class cars in his Mazda RX7 from Mike
Fitzgerald in a BMW 323i and the Class B leading Mini Cooper S of
Trevor Keene.
