It was a day for Fords and Queenslanders in qualifying for round three of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championships with the locals relishing their turn on home turf at Queensland Raceway. Most of the usual protagonists featured in the top ten – it was just that order hadn’t followed previous qualifying sessions.
Scott Nicholas benefited from a tow from Kris Walton to set the fastest time early in the second of two qualifying sessions and the latter couldn’t find that tenth of a second or so to best Nicolas. South Australian Steve Kwiatkowski made it a Ford one-two-three while Jake Camilleri was the best of the Holdens, placing his Commodore fourth ahead of the South Australian Fords of Matt Lovell and reigning champion Bruce Heinrich.
Queenslanders Troy Hoey and Rod Dawson were seventh and eighth in their
Fords ahead of SA’s Shawn Jamieson in a borrowed Commodore as his was
still being repair from a crash at Phillip Island’s last round. Local
Michael Uebergang rounded out the top ten in a Falcon, just ahead of
last round winner John Goodacre in his Commodore. Just 1.3 seconds
cover the first eleven whilst the best placed New South Welshman is
Peter Dane in twelfth position.
The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon category is
supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension, Kumho
Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy
Wheels.
