One of the busiest seasons for Brisbane based drag racing team, Stuart Bishop Racing will wind up during Willowbank Raceway’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals showpiece on June 8-10.
But even before Stuart Bishop shoots down the quarter mile strip for a shot at a coveted Winternationals crown, he’ll be on hand to unveil the winners of the inaugural Wallace Bishop Jewellers photographic competition at the Ipswich Art Gallery on Wednesday June 6.
There’s bound to be quite a few anxious photographers among the 20
finalists in the Amateur and Professional categories, who are all in
the running to win cash and some magnificent prizes to the value of $20
000 courtesy of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
Of course the overall winner across all categories will take home a
half carat 50-point diamond, similar to the one encrusted into the roof
of Bishop’s ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer.
“It’s an exciting time for everyone involved in drag racing and I
congratulate all the finalists in the Wallace Bishop Jewellers
Photographic competition who are already being displayed in a public
exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery,” said Bishop.
“Of course this was our first foray into providing an interactive
opportunity for drag racing fans and we hope to grow the competition
into a very significant component of the 2007/08 ANDRA Australian drag
racing season.
“Drag racing is rich in culture and sporting passion and as can be seen
by all the finalists contributions there is a definite air of
excitement and character associated with this form of motorsport.”
Exciting also has been a recent studio shoot conducted in Brisbane
where the full ensemble of Stuart Bishop Racing vehicles were polished
up and presented in a most sophisticated manner.
These newest additions, a replica ’67 Camaro street car and Murray
Anderson Designed – MAD Chopper, provide a classy accompaniment to
Bishop’s stylish Murray Anderson built ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer,
which was judged the best engineered car at last year’s Castrol EDGE
Winternationals.
The Stuart Bishop Racing presence during the 40th Castrol EDGE
Winternationals is bound to turn heads and make for an exciting and
highly successful three days of racing over the Queen’s Birthday
weekend.
On the racing front, Bishop realises it will be a real acid test in
competition as he strives to make it through to the final eliminations
field of eight among 21 confirmed starters for the Winternationals.
That hasn’t been a problem during the past two events where the World’s
fastest jeweller has won through to eliminations on the strength of
competitive personal best performances.
“Much needed rain fell over Willowbank Raceway on the day of our
scheduled test day, but I’m sure after a few early runs we’ll have a
handle on things at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals,” added Bishop.
“The entire crew is excited at how the season has progressed and this
is the one event where everyone involved in drag racing aspires to be
at their best.
“We’ve shown in the past that we can match it with the heavyweights in
Top Doorslammer so with a bit of luck on our side anything is
possible.”
